Language Exemption

It’s probably a bit early to be asking this question, but if you qualify as exempt from the language requirement, do you have to get those credits somewhere else, or does it just mean you can graduate with less credits?

If you take the AP and score a 5 then you can actually get credit for the language (most of them at least; it can vary by department.) Thus, you would have one less credit needed for graduation.

If you get a 4 on the AP or use some other means to test out, via the SAT II or the placement exam that Penn administers, then you will simply be “exempt” and will still need the same number of credits required to graduate.

So you could use those extra credits from being “exempt” to fulfill a dual-degree or double-major requirement, right?

Yes, if you so choose. (Or take misc classes, or study abroad, or graduate early, etc…)
