Laptop Advice?

Hi…I am going to major in accounting in near future.I use Photoshop CS5 sometimes. I love editing videos and photos.I don’t watch many videos though and i don’t play any games. What’s going to be suitable for me? People suggest me Macbook but any other alternative?

Are you used to a Mac or a PC? What are you currently using?

Read through some of the other threads on here:

As bruno14 said, what are you using right now? I would just stick to that one.

Well now i m living in my country so I mostly use my desktop which is LG. But, i cannot bring this when i m flying half the globe ( which is really silly -_-) ,right? And,i have one Acer laptop which i have been using for like 3 years. It is way too big and slow! So any suggestion?

FYI, i m living in Myanmar right now! I m going to college next year. My dad wants me to wait till the time draws near 'cause he thinks i can get better laptop by that time. Hmmm

When I said to use the one you’re currently using, I was talking about the OS. You are probably using some version of Windows, but a Macbook has a different OS which you’d have to get used to. So get a non-Mac laptop to suit your needs.

Windows 7?

Hmm and i want to know why i should buy a macbook. Okay, what is going to be ur suggestion for non-Mac?

Get this Acer laptop. It is 17" and has a i7 so its the latest technology and will last you a long time. And Acer quality is good. Great value.
Honestly, I think that any 18 yr old in 2011 could use both operating systems. Neither Windows 7 nor OS X is hard to use. I don’t see the dealio with this.

For your use a macbook would be fine. As for PC alternates similar to a macbook…
Asus UL series.
Acer aspire timeline x series.
HP pavilion series.
Technology moves really fast, and I can’t keep up with all these updates. But all these series have good durability, battery life, power, and good graphics for CS5.

I wasn’t really railing on Macs here, just saying that there’s no reason to switch over. Personally, I’m not too fond of the Mac OS and so I’m a Windows user.

@kikocupcake - What’s your budget for a new laptop?

Also, Newegg.com is a reputable and very popular website for computer-related shopping, so try browsing around there.

aStyle , I will be 17 tomorrow. LOL thanks for ur suggestions.I will check them out

Pascal, my dad won’t mind buying me a laptop over $1000 if i come up with good enough reasons. That’s why i want to know difference between Mac and Non-Macs and among non-macs =] I will check newegg.com

ok sorry pascal12. Didn’t mean a harsh tone. :D

kikocupkake, you want to look into the Acer Timeline series for your college years, especially the < 13" models. My S has an Acer I7, 11.9"", and really likes it. It is so light that he can hold it in one hand. It is slightly bigger than a notebook & is very powerful & fast. Battery last > 5 hours, at least, when fully charged. Highly recommend it.

i appreciate ur advice =] but my old one is Acer and i think i’d like other brands. The screen is too small i guess =] thanks anyway!!! i am looking into thinkpads and macs. Still a junior so i have time to wait more models to come out…

You use CS5-- Mac has better colours, a brighter screen. It comes out more like printer colours, so you really see what you’re doing. They aren’t hard to switch to, and if you aren’t a gamer, and art is a priority, I think mac might make sense for you.

If you DO switch, just get the macbook a little bit before term starts, to get used to it.

I’ve had both, and I’ve gone back and forth. Don’t be scared to try them out at a store, see how it is. You can always buy a 2 button mouse. :)
