Laptop for college, trying to decide between a few.

I am looking for a laptop within the $600-$800 price range and I have come up with a few options.

My favorite as of now is the Lenovo IdeaPad Y570. I can get it for $830 on sale this week and it seems to be a great deal.

[Lenovo - Enhance your IdeaPad Y570 Laptop - 086225U - Dusk Black (with USB 3.0): Weekly Deal](http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/builder.workflow:Enter?mtm-item=%3A000000F3%3A0000449A%3A)

My only worries about this laptop are that it will be too heavy (6lbs) and that the resolution is too small for the 15.6" screen (1366x768).

I am also considering two cheaper options: the Lenovo IdeaPad v570 ($630) http://belaptops.blogspot.com/2011/07/lenovo-ideapad-v570-1066a9u-review.html</a> and the ASUS U56E

To me it seems that the Y570 is worth the extra money, since it comes with a 750 GB hard drive, Intel i5 processor, blu-ray player, 3.0 USB ports, and so on.

What are your opinions on these laptops? Are there any better ones in my price range that I should consider? I’d prefer a 15" screen and I would like to be able to play some games, but I don’t need to be able to handle the new extremely graphics intensive ones.

Thank you!

I can help you out more thoroughly if I knew what you would be mainly using the computer for.

I’ll be using it primarily for schoolwork, but I also want to be able to use it for entertainment purposes. I’ll use it for watching movies, listening to music (I’ll have headphones), playing games (I’d like it if it could handle some of the newer games but it isn’t a big deal if it can’t), YouTube, and browsing the internet in general. So basically I want it to be able to do everything I do on my desktop.

All three of the computers you listed will no doubt be able to handle the simple tasks you mentioned, with the i5 processor and RAM in the 4-6 GB range, you should not encounter any sluggishness browsing the internet or watching movies. The graphics card the Y570 has has a dedicated 1 GB of memory, which will only help you if you want to play games that are graphically intensive. Since you aren’t worried about that aspect, then I would save the extra $200. Honestly you can’t go wrong with the V570 or the ASUS laptop. Weight isn’t an issue, they both fall under the ultraportable range weighing in under 5.5 lbs. The hard drive space is not really relevant, because most people won’t even come close to filling up half of a 320 GB HDD, let alone a 750 GB HDD. I myself would purchase the ASUS because they are known to be reliable.
