I was wondering what laptop would be best for my needs. I already have a desktop with good specs which I will be bringing to college. I’m mostly wondering whether or not I should get a Macbook or a Windows laptop (like the Dell XPS 15). I ask because my situation is a little different. I’m going to college for comp sci but I plan on doing video game development as well (some of the colleges I applied to have a CS games major) So I will be doing some 3D modeling. Since I already have a desktop, I can do most of the intense 3D stuff there, but I would still like to do some basic work on whatever laptop I end up getting. So yeah, wrap it up again, what OS should I use for CS? and what specs are necessary for light to medium 3D projects on whatever computer you recommend.
You probably don’t need something as high end as the XPS 15 or MacBook, but both are supreme laptops. There may be simulation software that will be CPU intensive so as long as you have a machine with a good CPU, you should be ok.
I don’t think OS matters much since most CS classes I would think would ask you to create/use VMs or remote into another machine.
