What’s the best laptop thats the most durable and good for school-use in general? For my junior year I’m planning to get one so I’d like to see what advice you guys had, thanks

Depends on your price range, what screen size you want, what games you play, etc.

dell is cool, like their inspirons
macs r ok too
ebay is ur friend for this too :)

One with an Intel dual core CPU (I hate AMD) + 1G RAM + GeForce 7 or 8 series graphics card + min. 80 hard drive.

Whether you want Vista or not is really your choice. Some do and some don’t.

Personally, I’m typing this on an old laptop.

Next time I get a computer, I’m getting a quad core CPU desktop…

Use a deals website like techbargains.com, gottadeal.com, or dealfiesta.com to find good deals. They have a lot of coupons for places like Dell and things like that.

The new Dell Inspirons have been experiencing shipping delays, especially certain colors. You may want to take that into consideration.

My current favorite notebook makers are Apple and HP. Dell gets an honorable mention in my book. Either of the three will get you a solid notebook. Don’t buy something cheap at Wal-Mart.

If you’ve been eying a Mac notebook, keep in mind that if you don’t like OS X (the Apple operating system), you can now install Windows on the Mac using Apple’s Boot Camp software.

I used to have Vista on my notebook but uninstalled it after only two weeks of use. It is just Windows XP with some annoyingly fancy graphics and even more annoying “security features”. Vista has had many problems and as a technology journalist (my site is http://www.pcfastlane.com )[, I can tell you the tech community has been very unhappy with Vista in general. You may do better sticking with XP.

And if you decide to buy Microsoft Office or Photoshop and don’t get a discount through your school, this store will give you a great student discount:

thank, you OP, I’m also going to be a junior and want a laptop…good luck

mac. mac. mac!!! yea, i’m one of those die-hard mac fans. if you can afford it, get a macbook, or if you can REALLY afford it, get a macbook pro, because they can do anything and everything you’d ever need to do, and plus you don’t have to buy and download all those stupid and annoying anti-virus things.

there is only ONE downside to a mac, and that is that they are not compatible with many programs, including most CAD softwares and many popular video games, if you’re into those kind of things. BUT, you can get Parallels or Boot Camp so you can run windows on a mac, so you can use any program and do anything that you could ever need on one computer. it’s worth every penny.

Ah, thanks everyone

I’ll write some of these suggestions down when I go 2 circuit city tonight and if i dont find anything there i guess ill order online

If you’re going to buy from a store like Circuit City, you may be pressured to get an extended warranty and other additional software add-ons (anti-virus, anti-spyware, etc.) Don’t fall for it! These warranties are really overpriced and you don’t need their add-on services as you can do them yourself easily at no cost. Your laptop should come with a 1 year manufacturer’s warranty, also negating the need for an add-on warranty.
