I will be starting UCLA in the fall as a biology major, possibly switching to engineering. What is the best laptop for school!? I have no idea someone please help! (:

One that is not heavy, a 14" or 15" at largest I would suggest. Lighted keyboard a must. PC or Mac is really up to you and how much you want to spend. Costco has amazing deals on laptops online including some Dells, Acers, HP on the PC side. Other retail stores (Microsoft/Apple/Best Buy ,etc.) offers a college student discount but we have found Costco considerably cheaper if you have access to them and are going PC rather than Mac. They offer way more online than they do in the store. At least go into a store and check the weight and how they have the spacebar and mouse feature set up on the laptops, they are different and you want one you like in that regard. Then you can browse for the best price laptop meeting your requirements. My engineer likes the power of a strong laptop over a tablet.

I suggest the 13" Macbook Pro. The student store has them at a discounted rate. Good luck!
