Can anyone give advice on laptop purchases? Does McGill have a student program, or brands that they prefer? Any recommendations about purchasing options, or specs would be very appreciated! We are in teh US - if that makes a difference. Thanks everybody!

Sorry, but I am curious if we should get XP Home or Professional for McGill?

i read on the website that most of the mcgill computers, like in the computer labs and such, are PCs, so getting a mac might complicate things a little. gexxman, i can’t think of anything that you would need to do with your computer that you couldn’t do with xp home.

Actually, I am getting a mac because i want one (hah) and now that they have boot camp built in, you can run both xp and mac os x on the same computer. So you will never actually run into a problem because you can just switch back and forth.

i’m getting a mac too! they’re so pretty, and if you buy one you get a free ipod nano (i already have one but i’ll probably give it to my brother or ebay it).

plus, the battery life is amazing. 6 hrs!!! i wouldn’t want to take my laptop outside on a nice day or to a cafe just to have to come back in 2 hrs or less b/c my battery’s dead.

erm…any idea about the Toshiba M3 Tecra that’s in the Pilot program?

I need a windows xp pro lappy with an above average battery life and 64MB+ graphics adapter =/

any suggestions? (oh btw…me’ll have to buy it from Montreal)

macs and pc’s are both ok. most people have pc’s, but most of the time you don’t have to do anything that would allow a conflict between your mac and the school’s pc. you probably won’t even use the school’s computers much - only to check your email or something in between classes. and xp home or professional won’t make a difference either.

get a laptop that’s light though. i don’t care what kind of functions it has, if it’s heavy, have a good time lugging it back and forth from campus

My son has a mac-he just likes them -there was a student deal through Mac
