Is a laptop really required? And if so, is it better to buy one in the US than in Montreal?

No, it’s not required, but it’s not a bad thing to have. I can’t answer the second part.

it’s probably better to buy one in the US… taxes are much higher in Canada so you can probably get one cheaper in the States.

if you’re in engineering, urban planning or architecture, you may want to look at this

dunno if a laptop is required, but since i have a desktop, a laptoip seems like a week flap of cheese. They always overheat and they have poor battery life. Don’t even get me started with the touch pad. but the engineering laptop that sells for 1300 CAD or USD (nowadays) is rediculously powerful. new intel core 2, DDR2 664 and 2 GB of ram. A little overboard if you ask me.

holy crap. I just looked at that, and at first, by looking at ^'s post, I thought it was overpriced…That laptop is a monster. That’s the most cracked up thing I’ve ever seen for the price.

The fact that you’re getting a dedicated video card with > 256 MB, as well as a 10/100/100 NIC and a wifi card that can do g and N is incredible. I’m simply blown away, I thought they’d offer you something lousy for the price. If anyone actually has $1300 to blow on a laptop, I would actually suggest that one.

p.s. the battery life is near 4 hours, the video card is industrial quality, and it can accept up to 4 gigs of ram…je$us chr!st. though I’d suggest XP Pro over vista any day, Vista Business is supposed to be pretty good.

SEE!!! Drmambo, were’nt you blown away by those stats?! THe laptop for 1300 is NUTS!!! I can’t say it enough! 2GB DDR2 664???

WHAT?!

256mb vid card?!?!?!

If anyone out there has the spare change, get this laptop. Oh, and Vista rocks compared to windows xp. the only thing that vista is bad at is the 1 gb page file ram usage at start up, but it quickly drops to ~300MB. Vista has neat search feature that has saved me tons of time (ie, I know a file is in a certain folder, or subfolders, so I go into that folder and top right I just type in “cat”, and a half second later, up pops my file). Also anyone interested in games, then direct x 10.

url for that crazy mcnasty laptop

personally, I like XP Pro over Vista, but to each his own. I’ve been noticing Vista doesn’t play nice with other OS’s in terms of networking. Trying having a completely open relationship (no pun intended) between a pc with Vista and pc with XP. You have to dig deep, and go through a lot to get it to work.

p.s. you and my twin can chill together; mcgill was his second choice too.
