Large University vs. Small College

I am deciding between going to a small college (about 8 thousand undergraduates) and a large university (about 30 thousand undergraduates). I was accepted to a smaller pretty decent college where i believe i could be towards the top of my class ( my test scores and gpa were at the top 10 percent of students accepted), and be more competitive for opportunities presented at the school. But i was also offered to enroll in the scholars program at Santa Monica Community College where they guarantee you admission to UCLA College of Letters and Sciences, after i complete the transfer requirements. My thinking is that if i go to the smaller college I would be more competitive to receive opportunities for job offers, internships, scholarships etc. rather than going to a large school with much harder competition.

So my question is: Should i go straight to the smaller less prestigious college where i would be towards the top of my class, or should i wait a year and transfer as a junior to UCLA, a more prestigious school, but would be probably middle of my class?

In the scenario you describe, I don’t see any advantage to UCLA . . . other than possibly cost. If the smaller college is going to be significantly more expensive, then it’s not worth it. But if that’s not an issue, and the smaller college has the program you want, when why not be “the big fish in the small pond”?
