Last Hope

I was recently rejected from Boston College, Boston University and Northeastern, and I have almost no hope for NYU CAS at this point. After NYU, I only have decisions left for schools that I’ve labeled high to very high reaches and NYU is really “my last shot”. I always considered BC, BU, and NU to be relatively realistic schools but now I don’t know what to think. Even if I’m accepted I may not be able to attend to financial constraints so I’ve been so down recently, I don’t know what due to do. Do you guys think I stand a shot at CAS?

SAT I (breakdown): 2040 (720 W 670 M 650 CR)
ACT: N/A
SAT II: 740 Math II, 670 US
Weighted GPA: Overall 91/100 aprox. (Went from 83 freshman, 93 sophomore, 97 junior, 99 senior year first semester) My classes increased in rigor throughout the years. If anyone would prefer I can go into details.

Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 71/250 unfortunately because of my low freshman grades.

AP (place score in parenthesis): My school doesn’t offer many AP courses, the only ones I could have taken but didn’t were AP Lit or English.

AP US (4)
AP Calc AB ()
Ap Econ Micro ()

Awards: Scholar Athlete, National honor society/Social studies honor society prestige awards, Student of the month in physics (received highest grade in honors physics that year)

-(11,12: President) politics club
-(10,11,12 President/founder) Fitness club

Job/Work Experience/Volunteer/Community service:

I work(ed) for/with various local -> state politicians, including at one point the Comptroller of NYC. I helped in various campaigns, political events, fund raisers etc, interviewed as part of a campaign of one of said politicians. Received a rec. from high ranking politician, I read it over and it rocked.

I’m currently involved in a TV Pilot so this is my “current job”. This was noted in my application.

Summer Activities: TV Show things/Worked with politicians on campaigns as noted above.

Intended focus: PoliSci/Econ

Essays:
Personal Statement: Very very interesting way I wrote it, I don’t want to go into specifics about the structure but it was very different. About my “life story” per say and how I realized exactly what I wanted to do. I was told by multiple professionals and peers that it was one of the best they’ve ever read.

Teacher Recommendation: Both hopefully good.

Counselor Rec: He really likes me and noted how I helped my peers with their applications.

Additional Rec: Stated above.

Additional points: A major part of my application is the “crazy”, for lack of a better word, changes I’ve made to my life. In school, outside of school etc. This was integrated into my essay. I lost 52 pounds amongst other things.

State (if domestic applicant): NY
Country (if international applicant):
School Type: Middle class, medium sized public school
Ethnicity: White eastern european - Jewish
Gender: M
Income Bracket: Less than $60,000
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Parents attended but never graduated college with a degree/first generation American.

(I would like to point out that I was accepted to Rutgers New Brunswick’s Business School, so I’m not literally left with nothing if I don’t make it into NYU, I’ve just always dreamed of attending there)

If I remember correctly, didn’t you apply to GWU. And I think you have a really good shot, and if you want to major in Econ , why not apply to stern?

I did apply to GWU but I doubt they’re going to give me decent aid and it won’t be worth it without it. I didn’t apply to stern because I know for a fact my chances would be extremely slim.

Yeah, Stern is tough. Is Rutgers your only safety school? Or do you have more schools you’ve been accepted to?

Omg our college lists are almost exactly the same. It’ll be alright don’t worry. Even if you don’t get into NYU, you still got into Rutgers. I have known individuals from rutger who have later gotten into high ranked grad schools or have transfered to ivy leagues. Don’t worry, it’s not the end. I know exactly how you felt when I got rejected from cornell, northeastern and BC. I felt like no one was going o accept me. I got guaranteed transfer from BU (i feel sort of indifferent about it but trying to stay optimistic.) so i can feel your pain

And isn’t rutgers also really expensive?

@collegeplease123 As of now Rutgers is the only school I’ve been accepted to.
@llegeacceptanc Yeah I’ve heard some very nice things about Rutgers’ New Brunswick business school specifically, Im not going to be very upset at all if I end up there.
@verizonwireless I’m an in-state student, and financial aid covers the rest if not more.

@ds0501‌ arent you from NY ? And as for NYU, you have a really good chance, but I would’ve concentrated more on ECs… Anyway, one question, if you do get into CAS, will you transfer to Stern?

I will definitely try. And the ny-nj thing is a complicated long story.

@ds0501‌ , why don’t you apply to some cunies… I know some really good ones like baruch

Regarding financial concerns… I don’t believe you should worry about the loans per se, because (judging from your thread post) you seem fairly smart and you know how to get good grades, so I think that transferring to stern won’t be a problem for you… BUT, always keep money as a factor and remember that this is college.
good luck

p.s Sorry for the late post, I found this in my draft
