Helping a friend’s daughter if any one here has ideas.
Current HS senior who’d like to study environmental science with a plan towards restoring ecological systems after pollution and other human intervention.
She was a high stats kid (4.0 unweighted, several AP’s and college classes, elite youth symphony member-viola) but her family has fallen apart in the past 2 years with economic collapse, mental health issues and domestic violence including towards her.
She’s moved across the country with her mother --an ivy-league grad, but they have little income, no money and are in domestic violence protection. Not surprisingly her grades have fallen and she was not able to take any tests. She’s been at 2 different schools for the past year and a half and now has a 3.7 GPA. She’s written hardship essays.
She’s applied to some pretty elite schools including UCLA, Berkley, Brown, Princeton, Yale, and currently her safeties are UC Santa Cruz and University of Washington.
She’s black and prefers not to be in a school with lower diversity but/and deeply wants an excellent education (she’d been primed for the ivies since birth and doesn’t know how to think about schools that aren’t super-elite). She really has no money so will need meets-need or close.
Can any of you recommend another safety? She is in-state for WA. I had suggested Western Washington but looking for others.
Thank you.
