Last minute awards? Bother sending?

So I’m most likely going to win a big local community service scholarship competition, and a volunteer of the year award from the newspaper. Although it’s not going to be finished until mid march.

I’m pretty sure my application will already be decided by then… (scary to think)… but should I even bother sending that in this close? Or save it for possible waitlist updates?

It for sure couldn’t hurt to notify admissions as soon as you win these awards… you can’t really be sure where they are at in the process. They would for sure leave it in your file should you end up on the waitlist. Schools want to hear what you have been doing since you applied, and would be happy to add a couple of things to your file. I won some awards last week at the state academic decathlon competition and so I sent those in by email. Usually, they will just print the email and add it directly to your file.

As for waiting, I would suggest that you should tell the admissions office about your awards sooner rather than later. What if you are rejected? Then you would never know how much the extra info could have helped.
Good luck!

You should probably wait until you actually win it. I think you should let them know when you do because if it’s big to your application it can be a critical part to the decision. Congrats!
