H and I hit Costco this morning, primarily for prime rib, but other things always jump into the cart.
In and out in 30 minutes.
I had to buy a few things yesterday to substitute if what I ordered online doesn’t make it. Such an irritant.

I can’t wait for the January 5 or later “good buy after Christmas” thread - I will enjoy Christmas but am always really happy when retail and life get back to normal.
D had a half day today so we went to the mall for her eye doctor appt. What a madhouse. We were going to shop, went to one store and I just had to leave! I told her whatever else she wants to get she can hit Target at 7am tomorrow morning. I may brave our 24 hour Walmart late tonight, I just wanted to pick up a couple little things.
I walked into our local Best Buy…they had the Google Home in stock…about 6 left. I was in and out of,there in less than 10 minutes! Amazing!
I was done a week ago, but supposedly H has not bought for me yet. We are visiting family in a rural area so I have no idea what he is going to do. And I’m not worrying about it either,
Every single year at this time, Christmas Eve and eve of the eve, I get this feeling that I need to buy more. So sure enough, H and I went out today. The stores and traffic were totally nuts. Long, long lines and that feeling of franticness. I bought a few small things. ( One was actually a gift from S to H)
Tomorrow will pick up lottery tickets for the two stockings I’m filling with fewer things than ever this year. D1 does not get a stocking because she will not be here Christmas morning. Not punishment. Just a way of easing out of the stockings. May continue to help S finish his shopping. Last minute, or last second or never shopping is totally in line with his personality. But helping him shop may ease my ridiculous feeling that I need to buy more.
I’m actually DONE. But DH has to get the candy and other stocking stuffer stuff…and of course, he will do that tomorrow. I’m planning to stay home all day! I got HIS stocking stuffers yesterday.
We are using all the goodies I got from Costco for buying gift memberships I gifted H & me and S. I hid it all and will use it to stuff our stockings. We are at the mall because S is getting tooth filled at dentist who is at mall. We are just ganging out and people watching. D went out shopping.
Love the typo, @himom…“ganging out”.
I was done… really, I was done, but D1 and I were out today with H and D2 to get H a new suit for D’s wedding, so we found ourselves at the mall. May have picked up an extra gift or two for Ds at Splendid.
Also, as I’ve been brainwashing many my friends with the Hamilton soundtrack, I just gifted a Washington-state friend with the soundtrack through iTunes. It was so easy to do. We don’t normally exchange gifts, but I was just with her a couple of weeks ago and she was very curious about the whole Hamilton phenomenon, so I played a smallish selection of songs for her, and she really liked it, so I decided I’d surprise her. I really don’t expect anything in return, except her full memorization of all the lyrics by the time she is back my way this spring!
There are many many gifts under the tree. That said–other than Amazon and Zappos–I bought one thing at BBB, one at a shoe store --and two more online and the majority of the stocking stuffers at
one boutique.
I sorta feel like I missed the shopping fun :P.
Amazon had at least 35 orders from our family. I love them.
Just realized all 4 of G’Son’s are from Amazon. Hot Potato game, Science kit and
I have no idea what the other two are.
I know there are at least two for S but dang I can only think of one.
He and DIL received a counter top dishwasher–as requested–as their big gift–
from Amazon (but of course).
I usually make list but did not this year. It is all going to be a surprise for this aging woman.
Ok, last post. i just checked and we had 159 orders fromAmazon in 2017.
I really hate shopping. I do like to go to Home stores for eye candy but rarely buy anything.
@busdriver11 I feel you. I only bought one or two gifts, giftcards for the rest and not even much of that. No Christmas spirit at all this year.
One year when I was in college, I did all of my Christmas shopping at 2 pm on Christmas Eve at the mall. Downside: I’m not good at pressure-shopping, so most of the gifts were pretty lame. Upside: The mall was practically deserted.
@HotCanary Sometime someone should start a thread about the times we have rescued our performing-arts kids from costume crises. BTDT
My son came home tonight, and said that he hoped DD didn’t get him anything great, because he felt his gifts for her were lame. Not last minute, but a cash strapped, time pressured student. I reassured him that his sister’s presents were probably last minute and lame. So everybody wins!
Hmm, @teriwtt. Maybe I will gift D1 the new Hamilton mixtape via iTunes. (We all have the original soundtrack already, of course).
It’s definitely a great gift idea for someone who is into the musical. I had heard a couple of songs on the radio, but when we were driving downtown to see it Wednesday, the girls played the mixtape so I heard almost all of it. And as we’ve been running errands since Wednesday, they have also played it in the car. I just need to get them to share it with me via their iTunes account so I don’t have to buy it for myself.
@LasMa Yes! And it’s so much fun to chase down some weird costume requirement, even if it’s stressful. I don’t want it to stop.
I went to BB&B for my mother. Packed, although for some reason that could be a Psych major’s thesis, people were standing 10 deep at the first 3-4 registers and way on the end we walked right up. Mother wanted a type of salsa they had, but all gone. I found some NFL throw blankets and got one for my daughter (lives in Florida and Colorado, but has become a Packer fan) and one for her boyfriend (Giants). I think they will like them (as long as the aircon is cranked while they are watching football in Florida). Buying for the boyfriends is hard. Last year he got socks.
Found out my brother isn’t coming this weekend, so two blankets I’m making for his twins can wait to be finished until after Christmas. One daughter is away, but of course her gifts are all here and just waiting to be wrapped. Other daughter is not getting much because she need money for study abroad. She does want a new backpack and suitcase, so maybe I’ll find something tomorrow.
