Last Minute Hotel in NYC

I’m a planner. To the Nth degree. The thought of using one of those last minute hotel finder apps makes me anxious, but to quote Jan Brady, “something suddenly came up!”, and I am on my way to NYC shortly. I’ve heard of folks getting rooms for 1/2 price or better. Anyone ever have luck with using such a tool in NYC? Am I correct in thinking that summer time in the city will mean difficulty in getting a room at the last minute? To be clear, I’m not high maintenance, but do not deal well with super budget/motel type accommodations either. Just need a clean, bug-free bed for a couple of nights…preferably UWS. But honestly, will travel for a decent bargain!

We have used hoteltonight.com and found some great deals the day of - I think you can only book from an app on your smart phone. I have to admit though that it has been awhile since I have used it as I really only book through airbnb now. Last year, we got a kind of last minute small studio guest house in the Fort Greene area of Brooklyn for around $125 a night. It had a small kitchen, a bathroom and slept 4- great deal! My son and his GF got a room in Manhattan about a year ago for $75. The apartment was owned by an older art teacher and apparently her house was amazing in the way it was decorated.

I use those last minute web sites all the time. I just did a quick check for Saturday night. Nothing much on Priceline, but Hotwire has a 4star hotel, UWS, with an 80% recommendation for $179/nigh (Does not include taxes and fees.) If you’re not willing to take a chance on that, I’d go to tripadvisor and put in UWS and sort by “traveler ranked”. Hotel Beacon is at the top of the list for $299 and it is highly ranked.

would you consider a Pod hotel?

@rosered55 What is a pod hotel? It sounds intriguing, yet claustrophobic

http://thepodhotel.com/ Here’s a link to the chain’s website. My sister has stayed in at least one of the NYC facilities. I stayed in a hotel in Brooklyn that was not billed as a pod but should have been. There was a huge bed, a small bathroom, and almost no space to walk around. But it was okay for the three nights I was there.
