For those of you relying on your extra-curriculars, this board is for you!

I’m applying to several ivy league schools and a few other schools that I am in love with. Several of my extracurriculars include the company I founded and international employment and service work. My grades are ok, enough to get in but at the bottom margin. This IS NOT a chance me thread.

I was wondering if there is anything I should send right now to the colleges to boost chances? Should I send evidence from my company such as credit card statements? Should I send an employment certificate for the jobs I worked at? Or should I only do this if they ask me.

I’m just worried about this because it’s really unusual and people are always surprised of my achievements when I talk about them. It almost sounds fake or very exaggerated on my application.

What else can I send right now to the colleges to give a last-minute PUSH. I feel like all of my hard work will be undermined and overlooked by the colleges, and eventually rejected, because of my extracurricular focus over academic focus.

Also, I didn’t add the URL of my company to the supplement because I didn’t know I could add that at the time. I wrote essays and information about it but that’s all they’re going to review. Should I send it to them now? How and in what format?

Thanks! I really want my years of hard work to pay off with a dream college acceptance. If there’s anyone out there in a similar situation please share!

You’d be surprised how many Ivy applicants have started their own business. Unless you wrote it with suspicious wording, they’ll have no reason to doubt you.

Probably not. Unless asked for, those sorts of unwarranted things could be deemed annoying or excessive pride, or possibly even make them suspicious because you felt the need to send them. If they ask for them, by all means send them. But if not, it’s probably best to relax now that your apps are in, take a deep breath, and hope for the best.

Thanks. Is there anything else I can do? For example, I’m visiting my top colleges and doing on campus interviews / and I recently had a person I look up to send a recommendation (only rec. I’m sending besides teachers.)

You definitely do not need to send in evidence that you founded a company. Keep in mind that starting a company in and of itself is not impressive. Ultimately, you’ll need to demonstrate the impact that your company has made.

Also, at this point, I would not recommend sending anything else in. Will you have an opportunity to interview with the schools you applied to? That would be the best time to introduce any new info to the adcoms.

Your question itself is oxymoronic. “What can I do in the last minute to make myself stand out among tens of thousands of other applicants?” Nothing besides inserting a cashiers check for $2Million.

that said, you have interesting items in your profile. But given that selective schools WILL focus on academics first before any ECs, you should be prepared for negative results.

I read the other day about a girl who folded a thousand paper cranes for the college of her choice. Don’t even remember where I read it, but I thought it was interesting.

You can start a daily meditation routine, using the following mantra, “I will be a success no matter where I go. It’s the person, not the school that matters.” Spend the rest of your time ‘being in the moment.’ You will never be in this time and place in your life again - for most people waiting to hear back from schools, this knowledge comes as a great relief, so relish it.

“sending a note to admissions as a letter of intent” This is a meaningless thing to do. Ivy Colleges assume that you are completely serious about attending – otherwise you wouldn’t have applied.
