As a first responder in the epicenter of north jersey, vacations were put on hold due to corona related staffing issues. Finally able to take a week in late July. Looking for a week rental within 3-4 hour drive of NYC at reasonable price. Beach? Lake George? Poconos? Vermont? Mass?
Prefer something near water for swimming, relaxing. Appreciate any ideas for family of 5+
Rhode Island. Plenty of shoreline and plenty of good food.
@doschicos thanks, any particular places in RI?
Lots of options on Cape Cod. I’d look on airbnb or vrbo, though there are lots of hotels too.
Thank @taverngirl
Been there for the college summer baseball league.
I have a cousin who goes to Westerly RI every summer. It may be difficult to get a beach house now. We love the Lake St. Catherine area of Vermont, lots of cottages along the lake. Lake Bomoseen Lodge is also nice. Check the Covid restrictions since you are coming from New Jersey.
What do you consider a reasonable price?
I know you are from the greater NJ area, but the Jersey Shore is nice, and you might be able to find something in Ocean City or Cape May.
I like the areas around Newport, Middletown, Jamestown, Portsmouth, Bristol, Tiverton, Little Compton. Some towns are more expensive, some less expensive.
There are some amazing looking VRBOs in the Finger Lakes region that we are considering. The adult “kids” might even join us if we have a place with a kitchen so we can eat most meals in but still get a change of scenery.
My friend got lucky with a cancellation in Scituate MA, oceanfront. I think ME has more restrictions in place, but NY/NJ are doing way better than a lot of places so you shouldn’t have a problem.
Massachusetts Governor Baker just announced that folks traveling to MA from the other New England states (CT, ME, NH, RI, and VT) along with NJ and NY are exempt from the voluntary 14-day self-quarantine.
Scituate is lovely, but IMO it’s more suburb than vacation area. I’d look for something on the Cape or islands.
Thanks all, slim pickings on such short notice. Going to take a few day/over night trips and vacation when things settle down. In meantime, kitchen will get a makeover with new appliances, counter tops and floor.
