Last year's shopping, checklists, and bedding threads.

I know this is an old question, but I ordered a folding bedboard a few months ago for a day bed that is similar to a college dorm bed. It covers the majority of the bed spring area, and although it isn’t as sturdy as plywood, it is definitely easier to deal with. For a really heavy person I don’t think it would be adequate, though. It’s pretty similar to the weight of peg board. I don’t remember where I ordered it from, but it was about $40 before shipping cost (seems like shipping was pretty steep, maybe $20.)
