Late applications and wait list

If a school takes late applications, does that mean they will also enroll students from the Wait List?

Maybe, but not necessarily. I don’t believe that schools promise to give wait list applicants a higher priority than they assign to late applicants.

In a theoretical example, let’s say, the school has a strong water polo team, and supporting the water polo team is very important to the school. The entire varsity team, and the water polo goalkeeper will graduate this year, and the JV goalkeeper will not return next year, due to a severe case of swimmer’s ear. In the regular admissions cycle, the school accepted a sufficient number of water polo players to rebuild the team. Unfortunately, all the goalkeepers decided to stay home.

After all the accepted students have paid their deposits, the school has one boarding to fill. Twenty students are on the waitlist, and five students applied after the regular admissions cycle. If finding a water polo goalkeeper is of paramount importance, the school will accept a water polo goalkeeper, whether from the waitlist or the late applicants.
