Late Display of Academic Excellence

So I did pretty well in my freshman - halfway through junior year, at least pretty well for not putting in much effort into school work. This earned me a class rank of about 59/970. My second semester of junior year, and first semester of junior year have been excellent, probably among the highest grades in my class in the absolute toughest course load. I suspect that my rank will rise significantly because of it, possibly all the way up to 46 (just an educated guess). I have high test scores (34 ACT, 800 MATH II, 800 Physics). I also am very involved in one sport (nationally ranked) and president of an honors society.

My question is, can my late display of academic excellence somehow qualify me for top top schools? Do you know of anyone who got in primarily because of late demonstration of academic potential?

I know posting this up here isn’t going to change anything, I’m just looking for some realistic expectations. My intentions are not for this to be a chance post, but more of a discussion on late demonstration of academic potential.

Thanks!

yep, I got in like that, kind of. I had a 3.0 uw to jr year (with two Cs), pulled all As through jr year, and I got into Cornell ED this year. Good Luck, it is possible!!
