I filed my FAFSA/Profile about a month ago, with estimates from my parents’ taxes from last year. However, due to some sudden events (death in the family) within the last few weeks, we have not been able to update our forms. Our info hasn’t really changed though, our EFC is pretty high and probably will only get a little higher, and we don’t think we’d get much aid…but we’d at least like a shot at getting maybe loans or work-study. Will it be very harmful if we updated our FAFSA/Profile today, right after yesterday’s priority filing date?

Update as soon as possible. Re: work study, that is considered need based aid. You may not qualify for it (my son didn’t…daughter did go figure).

A work-study award can be obtained by almost any student, as long as you apply for it. If denied, appeal; the results are almost always favorable.

Reecy…it depends on the school. DS applied for work study…was denied…appealed it…was denied. AND when school started and he was looking for campus jobs (plentiful, BTW, for those who do not qualify for work study), he found a job that was work-study…and they REALLY wanted him to do the job because he was qualified for it and they had no other qualified applicants. He appealed again (and the employer did too)…still denied, and the employer was unable to fill the job AT ALL that year…no qualified work study students applied for that position.
