Late Night-- and LAST MINUTE college search

<p>OK so i m a senior who has been working on apps every day since she got deferred from her 1st choice, early school. i m not that stressed out about filling out applications-- its actually kind of nice thinking up creative ways i can express myself on paper. but what i m worried about is getting into some of my schools</p>

<p>Ever since i got deferred, i’ve been soooo paranoid about colleges. Even those that i would thought of as a match for me, i have doubts about.</p>

<p>Can someone assess these colleges (reach, match, safety) for me?</p>

<li>Harvard</li>
<li>Yale RD…deferred EA</li>
<li>Princeton</li>
<li>Columbia</li>
<li>Duke</li>
<li>Johns Hopkins University</li>
<li>Emory</li>
<li>UVA— definitely a match for me since i’m instate. i already spoke to some admissions officers and they say i m “unofficially in”. plus top students in my school ALWAYS get in here.</li>
<li>William and Mary</li>
<li>U of Chicago</li>
<li>U of Richmond</li>
<li>Wesleyan</li>
</ol>

<p>and also, should i add Northwestern or will that add yet another impossible school?</p>

<p>btw i am African american, 2110 SAT, solid SAT II’s, salutatorian, low-income, good writer, have solid recs, and solid (but mundane) EC’s.</p>

<p>There are at least 30 kids at my school who have your stats or better, and they have more well-rounded lists then yours - as in more sure matches and safeties. </p>

<p>BUT -
If you’re “IN” to UVA, I guess you don’t need any more safeties if you would be happy to attend. Then, I don’t see any harm in applying to all the schools you’re seriously interested in.</p>

<p>What do I think about your chances to these schools? It’s hard to tell since you didn’t mention your GPA, but based on your other information, I think alot of them are reaches.</p>

<p>Well, most of these are reaches for everyone (even if they are low reaches). Add one strong safety unless you KNOW you are getting in at UVA. As for Northwestern, do you really want to go there? Can you see yourself going there? That is just more money to apply there and If you got into any of those other schools on your list would you just disregard Northwestern?</p>

<p>Duke and Chicago seem so different… can you really see yourself at both?</p>

<p>Northwestern is probably harder to get in than UVA. So apply only if you may like it more than UVA. That said, you will get in there due to your URM status and their URM enrollment hit a record low last year.</p>

<p>yeah actually Northwestern is really in need of african americans so i think you’ll have a good chance.</p>
