What does the phrase mean? I often hear people say that when applicants seem to join many many clubs but don’t show passion. Does the phrase refer to sporadic club involvment or lack of leadership/awards? At our school, many of the academic clubs don’t conduct officer positions.

It means someone has a really long list of ECs with very little commitment to any of them. Most likely they were joining clubs for the sake of joining clubs.

Hopefully NOT an example of laundry list(mine!)

What are the number 1 and number 2 things that you are most interested in? I couldn’t read the list with interest. I could tell it was good, but you aren’t getting your personality across. It needs to be organized so that the reader can tell what you care about and get some idea of your personality.

I have never seen a college guide that did not say that your EC’s need to show “passion” in one or two activities. Can’t anyone come up with a word other than “passion”?

My 3 Passions(How should I reorganize it?)

The “passions” aren’t actual EC’s that you participated in. A “passion” might be playing the piano, political science, Japanese, or collecting bubblehead dolls. In those terms, how would you describe it. I think you are thinking of the EC’s more as awards that you have accomplished. You need to get your personality into the application. Why did you pick those EC’s to do.

Incidently, a good book to look at is “Acing the College Application” by Michelle Hernandez. She recommends attaching an activity list instead of a resume. The activity list is in the same format as the EC question on the application form.

I love to research and learn about new things(I even got distracted on SAT caus I enjoyed learning stuff in passages). Hence, my research experience at NRL was perfect match for me.

Hospital because I have like helping others from day 1.
Model UN because international issues are important to me because of my ethnic origins etc.

People always talk about Model UN. What the heck do you do anyways? Sees sort of, well, worthless. I mean what does the UN do anyways? Get rich off of despotic regimes and appoint Communist or radical Islamic countries that take political and religious hostages to be head of the human rights council? The UN doesn’t do any good, it is too inclusive. It’s like, in reaction to various world situations, they are either in league w/ the criminals or they say “don’t be bad or half of us will vote to send you a very stern letter threatening action that no one will ever act on”. So sorry about the rant but what do you guys in model UN do, represent countries then argue about issues? Do you get points for avioding paying dues or making under the table oil deals with the representative from Iraq? Or maybe like the real UN you just sit around trying to think of another reason to make a resolution condemning Israel for something?

I’m sure this will incite anger but really what good has the UN done lately? We have the genocide in Darfur, and how does the UN act, they sit on their haunches writing fancy resolutions. After the Tsunami, who was first on the scene? The UN, the Red Cross? No. The United States Navy. America doesn’t need the corrupt governments of the world to tell us what to do. Recess appoint Bolton!

Wow sorry totally random. Perhaps it is a knee-jerk reaction to seeing the capitol letters UN. Well, I guess I know what my passion is. I should just cut and paste that over to Free Republic. Sorry, don’t think worse of me.

Yeah you’re right about some of that and also alot ppl think that if you’re in MUN you’re in college. But I worked my butt off and actually won awards and our school came in second at the IVY League Conference where I won Outstanding Delegate award. Only two people from my school won Best Delegate awards at UPenn and one is attending Harvard through Early and the other is attending Yale through Early.
