Laurel Highlands High (PA) Valedictorian Headed Off to HARVARD

High school graduation is a time to talk about dreams for the future, but for the Laurel Highlands High School valedictorian, his dream has already come true.

Seth Packrone found out that his dream of attending Harvard University came true on March 30, but he had little time to celebrate.

“It was hard to celebrate when I had to be on an airplane for NYU in eight hours,” Packrone said. “I was pleasantly surprised.”

New York University was offering a full scholarship, and Duke University had offered to fly him down to their campus for a tour, but Packrone already knew where he wanted to go.

“Harvard was my first choice,” Packrone said, adding that his second choice was Yale. “I thought I had the same chance at either one.”

“We knew he would be accepted to one of them,” said Packrone’s mother, Mary Packrone. “We just didn’t know which one it would be.”

Packrone said he applied to Harvard during Christmas break, adding that he sent his application, essays and teacher recommendations out a couple days before the deadline.

“There was no guarantee of getting in there,” Packrone said. “There’s not much separating the people who get in and the people who don’t.”

Along with the love and support from his family, Packrone said his peers and his teachers have been supportive and proud that he is the first person from Laurel Highlands High School to go onto Harvard.

“If we would have won a million dollars, we would have been just as excited,” Mary Packrone said. …"

I want to send a message to you.

Sorry … box overflowing as usual! I have cleared some space now.

“We knew he would be accepted to one of them,” said Packrone’s mother, Mary Packrone. “We just didn’t know which one it would be.”

is she being serious?

Somehow, I don’t think the mom has a way with words. I had to readthis line several times before I figured out what I think she was trying to say:

“…If we would have won a million dollars, we would have been just as excited,” Mary Packrone said…"

First i would like to say, i am related to seth and do not appritiate you saying bad things about him or mother. Before you say something next time think about what it is first.

Why are you bumping up a 2 year old thread?

agree with piccolojunior. Why 2 yrs later?

Home girl needs to get it together. No one is that good where you KNOW they’ll either be accepted to Harvard or Yale… Good chances, sure… But nothing is guaranteed.

Google search, methinks.

The reason I posted that two years later, was because I just found it and if someone was talking about someone in your family you would stick up for them too, no matter what. And i do not know why it bothers you so much that i posted that two years later… it is not like you should be worried about him or anything. So you should really try finding other things to be worried about. And considering its now 3 years later it really should not matter to you. Also, I was there when they talked to the paper about his fabulous accomplishments… they mixed up her words. Thanks though, I guess you people do not make mistakes. :)

do you hear yourself, JasmineSweetie? you sound pretty stupid.

The posts were right. You can’t mix up words and end up with absurd statements like the ones in the article.

Something tells me we’ll hear from Jasmine again in about a year or two…

^ROFLcopters.

lol quite likely.

■■■■■! coughjasminecough

Well I think you are all just very pathetic for judging a 16 year old. I mean I guess its cute if that’s what your into. I mean I feel honored that all of you care so much about my family and me. Honestly, I am so grateful. You guys don’t even know us and you care. It’s so sweet. Also, your wondering why I am commenting on an old story…? Right? Well two things. 1. Why are you reading the story and comments? You have nothing better to do? I take it you are the kids in college that don’t have friends. Okay, that makes more sense. 2. If you don’t know me, which obviously none of you do, don’t judge me. Especially because I’m 16. That is also entirely pathetic. You aren’t winning yourself any brownie points for anything. So make sure that after you read this you try acting really really cool and go add more comments so that everyone can read them then make fun of you. And in your comments make sure you include something that makes it seem like your making fun of me. Write some really good jokes. It will be great!

Wow. Boy are you adamant about necro-posting.

I think IHBT.
