Lawrenceville chance me!

Disclaimer: I have no greater insight than the average poster, so take it with a grain of salt. I’m a parent going through this for the first time, guided by DC’s private school’s placement office.

I would be a tad more optimistic.

According to my notes, the Median SSAT is 85th percentile and the acceptance rate is 19%.

I can’t imagine that anyone who has spent any time analyzing SSAT’s would argue that they are anywhere near precise enough for AO’s to distinguish between and 84 and an 85. So, your score is effectively in the money.

As for your grades, generally speaking Gladchemms expect “A” students. Your B+ in Accelerated Math, depending on exactly what “Accelerated” means, might be viewed as fairly close to an “A”. Spanish is a little less important.

So in toto I think your scores and grades are about average for accepted students. Some of the rejected students no doubt have worse stats (and some the same and some better).

All else equal, I would say that a student with stats that match the student body has to have a better chance that the overall acceptance rate. So on that basis, your chances are probably better than 19%.

Moreover, as a full pay, your chances are better than average as well. I’ve heard some say that you should double the acceptance rate for full pay, and halve the rate for full FA. I think that must be an over exaggeration … the numbers don’t seem to work. It also depends on the school. In any event, full pay helps, and your chances are probably better than 19% for that reason as well.

I cannot judge your athletics, but at least you have something there. I cannot judge your essay.

If I were betting, I would say your odds are better than 19%. But even if they were double that, ie 38%, that is still a 62% chance you do not get in.

The fact is, it is very very hard to get in to any of the Gladchemms.

In any event, congratulations on your success to date and all the best on M10!
