Layering

I love the fashion advice I get on here! I am in search of cardigans/jackets for work. I would say we are business casual here - the ladies wear dress pants and nice tops, and the men wear button-down (with or without tie) but not usually a jacket or suit. The temperature is variable and can get quite chilly or rather warm depending on who’s in the office!

I am short and busty, usually wear size 12 to fit around my chest and tummy. I rarely wear a crew neck top, so the traditional cardigan does not work for me at all. And I find the buttons usually gap. I would love to have a nice blazer style jacket that is not too constricting or flimsy looking. 3/4 sleeves are good too. I also like the drapey cardigans as long as they are not “droopy.” I would wear either turtlenecks or v-neck/scoop neck tops underneath. I would love to get some blouses if they were cut full enough in the bust to avoid the gap. If I go up a size, they just look too big because I am short.

Ok, get ready to shop!

I wear a lot of Chicos. Their colors always work well together whether I am using one of the more structured work jackets or a looser cardigan type. I always get compliments and it strikes a nice balance between casual and formal office. There is a great sale today and it does not take anything to sign up to be a passport member for free shipping.

My daughter likes DD atelier and other retailers who offer clothes for women who are busty.

I had a breast reduction so I dont quite have the same problem anymore, but I think that a structured jacket often looks better on me than a flowy sweater.
& I wear scarves & cowl necks but never turtlenecks, unless I am skiing.

I’m probably bustier than you (triple D bras), and I second Chico’s as a source for cardigans and jackets. Probably half of mine come from that store.

Is there a Chico’s outlet near you? I ask because the clothes in the outlet stores are sometimes completely different from those in the regular stores. So if you have an outlet nearby, you have two places to shop.

I have also found nice cardigans that fit my top-heavy body at Lord and Taylor, of all places.

Wow! That is a great sale at Chico’s! I have avoided the store because everything seems frumpy and overpriced, but these are neither! Thank you!

Chico’s has more than one look. Personally, I don’t wear anything with a graphic, or metallic, and I almost never accessorize, which lets out about 70% of the store, but I still manage to find great stuff there. I just bought two sweaters last week. (Check out their shaped, crisp no-iron shirts. They are great.)

You should also check out Talbots. They have petites in all sizes, and the stuff sounds like what you are looking for. The quality is usually very nice.

(I staple between buttons.) :)

Safety pins. Lengthwise. From the inside, and I make sure that they don’t penetrate the outermost layer of fabric.

This is a lot of trouble, which is why I rarely wear blouses with buttons.
