LEAD/LBW Chances

Hey guys,

I’m applying to both camps for this summer and wanted to get a good idea of my chances. I understand that the programs can be competitive and I value honest/constructive criticism. Feel free to ask for any other information thats necessary to get an accurate understanding of my chances. Thanks for your help!

SAT I: 2090 (690 CR;750M;650W)-I’m retaking this in 3 weeks

Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 4.0
Weighted GPA: Cumulative-4.63 Junior Year-4.92

Rank: 1%

AP: Taken-APUSH, AP Bio, AP Government, AP Calc 1. 4’s on everything except calc which I didn’t take the test for
: Current-AP Physics I, AP World, AP Calc II, AP Environmental, AP English
Awards: Student of the Month AP US History, Student of the Month AP Computer Science, Student of the Year AP Biology, AP Scholar(among first 5 in county history to receive this by their sophomore year), other small awards.

Extracurriculars: President of Solutions for Multicultural Achievement and Recognition Team(currently planning a school wide multicultural day), Vice President of Science National Honor Society, Vice President of Peer-to-Peer Tutoring, Intern at a local tech company(currently designing an app for the local chamber of commerce), Co-Founder and CEO of VelopApps(Have marketed a lot with this and have grown a following of 12.5k people in just 3 months), Young Entrepreneurs Academy, City and County Youth Civics Council, Red Cross Club, other honor societies etc.

Volunteer/Community Service: Have volunteered a lot at the local hospital. Also, I spend around 4 days a week tutoring kids in the area who are struggling academically, have volunteered various church events and other events such as Special Olympics, soup kitchen etc.

Summer Activities: Spent first 2 summers taking original credit courses to get ahead. Spent the last summer traveling. Traveling is a big part of my life and I’ve visited 11 countries so I’m not sure if that can be worked into the application somewhere.

Thanks again for your help and time!

Hello. I’m applying as well, and want to see my chances.

gpa: 3.9/4 unweighted, and 5.2/6 weighted

AP: 4 on apush, and 5 on comp sci. taking bio, envi sci, calc ab, stat, lang, and apwh right now.

PSAT: 1470/1520

Awards: big ones mainly would be qualified for aime, got a 3.

EC: boy scouts, right now life scout, was SPL before. In deca and debate. Also have helped on a app on learning with the blind for my brothers fll team, it got to top 3 in the world.

volunteering hrs: a bunch here and there.

Hopefully i can write a good essay to get in, and that my psat and my schools name will carry me.

@cgsarat71 your PSAT are REALLY good and the AIME qualification is interesting as well. You say you do DECA and debate? have you gotten any awards or high placement for those activities? I would think that DECA especially would help you out if you’re applying to the business program, and the 5 you got on Comp Sci will help as well.

I don’t know If you’re school’s name recognition will help unless it’s really well known (i.e. Stuyvesant, Thomas Jefferson), but you mentioned it so it must be prestigious.

As for essays, I can’t really say anything because I don’t know their prompts.

Just by looking at your profile, however, I can tell that you are a very strong applicant. Try and find other people who have gotten into LEAD and size them up. Good luck with your application

Hi @Ahmeda14960 ! Thanks for your encouragement! My school is relatively well known within texas, Im not sure out of state (Its called westwood high school in austin. I know its not like TJHS level but its preety good). I’ve only done deca starting this year and debate not much. Hopefully u get in as well!

Also BTW I am asian so Im sure that will hurt my chances for LBW and LEAD but hopefully not much

Terrible, no chance at all. My son got rejected with a 2430 S.A.T and you really think you’re getting in??

@Eagless62 SAT scores aren’t everything though. OP has a very strong application, however I am not too familiar with the programs’ admission.

I attended LEAD last year, and I can tell you that they admit kids for reasons beyond SAT scores and even GPA. Be sure to work hard on your application and you’ll be fine!

@QuVntt I believe that guy is just a troll (judging by the 2430 SAT) but thank you.

@AddyB123 That’s great to hear, but, forget the admissions, how was your actual time there? I haven’t had the chance to actually talk to an alumni of the program and have been going entirely off of things on their website. Would you say it was actually an enriching program or just something you considered to be padding for your resume?

@aabraham oh i read that wrong XD My bad

My time at LEAD was great! I absolutely loved it, and I would do it again. I did business for two weeks at Northwestern. I loved my counselors, I loved the people, and the dorms were nice. I learned a lot and the professors were great! They take good care of you; good food and fun outings. I totally recommend it!
Feel free to PM me!

@Eagless62 You do realize that oyu can’t get a 2430 right…even on the old SAT…

@tomatox1 he’s kidding

hence the 2430
