Leadership/ ECs as an admission factor

I am starting to worry about leadership positions and such on my app. I have a solid GPA and am really involved, but I only have one “leadership position”–editor of the school literary magazine, which is a big deal but i still dont know if its enough. Plus, I feel like most kids have at least 2, is there a problem?

it will depend on how you present it. Elaborate in one of the essays how/why that activity was important to you. It really is not one thing that will make or break your chances. I do believe the ‘total package’ is more important than being the president of X amount of clubs

NYU is really driven by statistics and sadly money
but if you dont have the stats , you really have no chance
i would worry about grades and SATs more than anything else

Actually, the admission decision is need blind. However, what you are expected to pay might make you consider other universities. Your admission decision is more based upon SAT’s, grades, and taking the hardest course schedule offered at your high school. This is prety much the way it goes for the tougher schools.

There are always outliers; kids with extraordinary accomplishments in other areas that help the admission decision if the main criteria are not up to snuff.
