Leadership Opportunity vs. Higher Rank.

We’re putting in our schedules for senior year tomorrow and i have a dilemma.

1) I can take two orchestras. I’m currently in the top orchestra and i play the cello. I’m thiking about joining the lowest orchestra as an assistant/cello leader. My E.C.s arent all that great and i think this will be a decent boosts (what do you think?)

2) I can take one orchestra and take one more weighted class, so i’ll have 6 A.P. classes. Our school is extremely copetitive for a public school and i know taking and acing 5 AP classes will still drop my weighted rank, so six is the only option if really want to remain competitive in terms of rank and GPA.

so, whats more important for colleges?

The leadership opportunity that you describe would be regarded as minor by the relatively few colleges that put a lot of weight on ECs. Those colleges tend to be places like Harvard, which have such an overabundance of high stat applicants that they can choose students based on creating a well rounded class.

My advice is to do what you are most interested in and would enjoy most.
