"Leading applicant" ?

I’ve seen on an old thread in this forum that some non-automatic admission applicants are told on the mystatus page that they are a leading applicant and are sort of unofficially accepted.

Anybody know about this? Does it even happen? When would they tell you that you’re a leading applicant?

bump

I’ve never heard about this though, but I’m really curious to know as well.

I’ve never heard this either and I’ve read a lot about UT. anyone have any more info?

Here is where I saw this…

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-texas-austin/1044393-ut-2015-thread-3.html?highlight=petroleum+engineering</a></p>

The comment is…

Accepted ( kind of. since My application status says that i’m a leading applicant therefore i am guaranteed for admission but i’m not sure about the major tho)

i applied to Cockrell EE/ computer engineering and the honors program as well
Arizona

100% if it offers some scholarship + grants
60% if not

Actually I just saw the Arizona part. Maybe that has something to do with it

I also saw something about it on a thread for McCombs acceptances while I was trying to look for more information on it. (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-texas-austin/797895-please-post-your-ranking-class-size-if-u-got-admission-fall-2010-mccomb.html?highlight=leading+applicant+ut+austin</a>)

The post said this: “Am I accepted? It says on the website that “Because you’re a leading applicant, we have good news about your admission to The University of Texas at Austin. Your excellent record allows us to guarantee your admission to UT Austin so that you can begin making plans for your enrollment.” McCombs is my first choice.”
