Learning new language at USC

I am a Spanish V student, and was thinking to do Spanish I at USC for an easy A. However, I have always wanted to learn French, and start in French I but I wonder if it is worth jeapordizing my grade to do that. Does anyone have any suggestions?

To be honest, if you want to make life easier for yourself, try testing out of a language during orientation. If you’re in Spanish V right now, there is a very good chance you can test into Spanish III at USC. If your major requires a language, you might as well take it and get the language requirement out of the way. You can use the Spanish classes you skipped to take whatever elective you want (French, etc).

I would not waste tuition money on Spanish I just for an easy A.

Well, if you’re majoring in the College, you’ll have to take Spanish III, so you could take Spanish I for “an easy A” (if the class is as easy as you assume it to be), but you’d also have to take Spanish II AND Spanish III then. But if you place into Spanish III then you could just take that and be done with it. With French, you’d have to take all 3 semesters. It all depends on how much you want to learn French. Yes, depending on the teacher, it may be pretty difficult to get an A, but I think it would be very rewarding to learn a 3rd language. Perhaps a perspective from someone who has already taken a foreign language would be helpful. Good luck!
