I have about 10 boxes each about 25 LB to ship to the other side of the country. It can take its time gettinhg there. What are my options? Is USPS the cheapest?
Haven’t used them myself but hear from friends that Amtrak and Greyhound are worth checking for cost-effective shipping.
We used Greyhound to ship some of my son’s stuff home to Maine after he had to drop out of UT. It was very reasonable!
Are there any books in those boxes? Consolidate those into a separate box. USPS book rate is a good deal, but can only be used for printed materials. As far as the rest goes, check USPS rates vs FedEx ground.
Yes books are in separate boxes and will be shipped media mail. I’ll check with greyhound. Thank you.
I used FedEx Ground. It was reasonable. It took about a week to go across the country.
We have used UPS ground and USPS flat rate, after comparing prices. Usually for us USPS flat rate is lowest.
How big are the boxes? The large fixed rate priority mail boxes are a good enough price…but they are not very big.
Fed ex ground was cheapest when we looked.
I use my company shipping facility to ship stuffs to my kids. I get half price for Fedex.
It’s a win-win for employer and employees.
If you weigh and measure the boxes, you can go onto the shipping companies’ and USPS websites, input the data, and get cost estimates.
thumper the boxes are 20x20x20 and weigh between 20 and 40 LB. I wish I could use large flat rate boxes. Greyhound offeres a good price but it looks like you have to go to the station and pick them up yourself. Not convenient if you don’t have a car at the other end.
I’m also a huge fan of the USPS flat rate boxes, but those are relatively small. When shipping larger boxes to D, we used good old USPS Parcel Post. Insurance if you need it is very reasonable, and you can add tracking for (last time I checked) 65 cents.
FedEX ground wins, less than half of USPS parcel post. It’s surprising that there is such huge difference in price.
There’s a website called shipgooder which compares prices for you. I haven’t used it yet but intend to.
I found fedex ground to be the cheapest especially if you open up an account with them.
