Anyone here have great suggestions about their favorite leather cleaners and conditioners? We have a new leather couch, as well as some aging Volvo leather upholstery and my aging leather handbags. Any tips would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks!

Really–no recommendations? I’m surprised!

Saddle soap & beeswax.

I got a free kit consisting of a bottle of Coach leather cleaner and a bottle of conditioner, and I was not impressed. Will not buy those any time soon.

The stuff that came with our Ekornes sofa seems to do the job according to reviews, but I have not tried it yet.

BB, what came with your sofa? I have a cream colored leather chair that my husband loves to sit in while reading the newspaper–and it is graying from all the newsprint.

I love saddle soap, it works great as a cleaner. Armor all makes leather wipes that work pretty well, or if you check an auto parts store Mothers and some of the other suppliers of cleaners have a whole range of products that work on leather. Basically, keep trying until you find something that gives you the results you want:)

When we bought our Hancock & Moore leather pieces the dealer said to use only very mild soap (Ivory) sparingly on a damp cotton cloth and to be sure to use a second (or third) cloth rinsed in plain water. I understand that since then, H&M has also suggested Leather Master products.

Your furniture may have a snippet of leather attached beneath a seat cushion or under the sofa/chair that you could use to test your selected cleaner. At least then you’d know if water or water based cleaners are safe for whatever dyes were used.

We were told to clean the leather at least twice a year, even if we didn’t see any grime. I probably average once a year. When we had some Ekornes leather furniture, I had to clean it at least monthly because it was very light and both newsprint and blue jean dye rubbed off on it. I just ran warm water over a bar of Ivory into a bowl then dunked sections of cut up undershirts in the soapy water. Once the leather looked clean, I wiped it down with clean damp rags. I never used any sort of conditioner on the Ekornes or H&M. I have used some Guardian conditioner on some cheaper black leather recliners in the basement and it seems to do just fine. However, H&M won’t honor their warranty if I use it on their pieces.

boysx3, I will look it up at home, since I do not remember the name. I got a sample from the store with the sofa and researched it a while back but have not bought any yet.

Thanks–am waiting to hear back from the company that sold us sofa, to see what Mfgr recommends.

BB–thank you.

I am also going to try the Ivory soap idea.

the furniture store we bought our leather couch from gave us leather cleaner–when I ran out I just trotted back for more!
