Leaving an answer as a square root...

So this is the problem I was working with
a^2 + 11^2= 16^2
a^2+ 121= 256

- 121=-121

a^2 = 135
a = √135

My question is should I leave the answer as a square root or can I just show a= 11.61 (√135= 11.61).
Let’s say a problem like this showed up on the grid-in section of the SAT, which form of the answer is better to show? Please and thank you!

Another question, how would I convert √44 into 2 √11 ?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think a grid-in would have answers that are irrational (unless it says round to the nearest ___ or something). You can’t input the sqrt on a grid-in.

Also, sqrt(44) = sqrt(2^2 * 11) = 2 sqrt(11).

Thank you!
