Leaving CEEB code as "000000"?

I have a tricky situation. What do you guys think of this, and how will it affect my Common Application?

I will be leaving my CEEB code as 000000 under “Academics”, but will enter High School address and all other information accurately and completely. Also, my CEEB code will still be entered on teacher/counselor recommendations and I will specify it on the “Additional information” section.

Why I’m doing this:

All of my recommendations from my junior year teachers have been taken care of online. However, I just transfered to a new high school that uses Naviance. When I enter the CEEB code into the common application, it overrides the complete recommendations and I would need to have my teachers fill in recommendations manually and mail them in. This will not be possible for various reasons that I will not go over.

Now…

When I leave my CEEB code as 000000, everything is fine, and the recommendations remain intact. In addition, I repeat that my new school’s CEEB code is already specified in counselor recommendations. All other High School information is properly entered, only CEEB code under “Academics” is different.

In your opinions, will this severely affect my application? I might email a few Universities about this matter, if that should be necessary… but I want your opinions first. Thanks

The over-ride feature is the sort of thing that should be brought to the attention of (not necessarily in this order):

The IT folks at Naviance
The IT folks at Common App
The guidance staff at your old school
The guidance staff at your new school

You can’t possibly be the only person that this has happened to. Your carefully registered concerns/complaints may move the folks responsible for this flaw in the system to fix it.

Until that happens, it looks to me like you have found a decent work-around.

Good Luck!

Thanks. I already talked to Common App support. They told me that there is absolutely nothing they can do to help me. I’ll try to talk to IT at Naviance… if that doesn’t work, I’ll try mentioning it to my counselor but I doubt he’ll have any solution either.

I mean, leaving the CEEB as 000000 can’t be that bad… I’m assuming they’ll be able to properly identify and organize my application regardless. There’s no way I’m calling my teachers across state lines and have them print/fill/copy/mail 10 supplement forms for the Sep 30th deadline.

Anyone else want to comment on this?

I’m surprised to see that no one else has ever run into this problem…

bump .

Hi,

I’m trying to fill in the online common app. Thing is, there are errors, namely not being able to fill up CEEB codes for my parents’ colleges.

Tried searching online, on collegeboard and even the common app itself. No luck!

And it’s not like these institutions are obscure, its a masters @ Harvard University, US, Bachelors @ Cambridge U, UK, and Oxford U, UK.

Any advise please? Should I leave it as 0000 as well?

Thanks!

I can’t find the CEEB code for oxford u - anyone know how to find it?
