I took the SAT for the first time today, and unfortunately didn’t manage my time very well. Each section took me a lot longer than I expected and I ended up leaving like seven questions blank at the end of each one. I didn’t have time to fill in random bubbles. How does the new SAT scoring work, and are blank answers counted as incorrect? I’m planning on retaking in October. Any tips for better timing?
google has great tips and can also answer those questions faster than any of us
There is no penalty for incorrect answers on the new SAT, so guess away with one letter of your choice (this will give you a higher chance of getting random questions correct than if you pick random letters) when time is almost over.
I would advise you to take a watch with you so you can use its stopwatch feature (it can be a cheap, $15 digital watch if you don’t already have one). Know before taking the test which parts of each section you need to reach at specific time intervals to stay on track (e.g. I need to finish the first reading passage by 13 min or the first 10 math questions by 15 min).
Overall, however, I think the best way to manage your time is to take practice tests at home in a simulated testing situation. This will give you a good idea of what to expect on the big day. And the more you study in general and review the questions you missed on practice tests, the faster you can work problems that you are already familiar with on test day.
Good luck!
Don’t worry about that, you will not lose points, bit you could have gotten more questions correctly but answering them at random. Now, I ran almost in the same problem, but not that bad. The key is skiming the passages and finding the most effective and quickest way to solve the math problems, I know, it’s not a comprehensive response but the truth
