Are you a person who tends to leave reviews? If so, what motivates you to do that? Do you review all kinds of things (books, restaurants, professional services), or is there one area or product where you tend to be, “review happy”? Are you more prone to leaving positive or negative reviews? Are there specific platforms you prefer for leaving reviews?
I am a person who tends to review services/people, not products. Though, I appreciate reading those. I rarely intentionally make the effort to leave a written review (by going to Google or Yelp), but if I am sent a survey via email I often participate. Those seem to be common for medical services (I just participated in one which is what prompted my question here).
One opportunity where I will occasionally take the initiative is by using the (800) WAL-MART line. I only use this to report positive interactions with store associates. The folks at the call center always seem stunned and appreciative. One time I later told my favorite checker I had called in to say positive things. She was so excited! “That was you? I got recognized by the manager in front of all the other store associates, and I got this pin!” which she proudly showed me.
I don’t leave reviews but I will definitely call managers and tell them when I have received excellent customer service, with the employee’s name, usually for something complicated like an insurance claim.
I typical respond to surveys but for leaving an actual review it needs to be either stellar or abysmal. I just left a stellar review for our veterinary hospice. They were so above and beyond! I’ve also been telling all my local friends about them. Our plumbing contractor will be getting a review too…once the work is finally done…and it won’t be pretty but I feel like people need to know. We will also be telling locals to not use them.
I have left reviews when I have been favorably impressed. The last one I left was for the local AT & T store where the manager helped me buy and set up my new phone, walked me through everything and reviewed my plan ( lower monthly payment). He was terrific to work with and so patient with me.i really think people like that should be recognized.
I do not. I get so many requests automatically computer generated from a purchase but when the roofer or the plumber or the landscape company want a review immediately after an installation or service provided - it means nothing. For roofer or other service provider ask me for a review after 2-5 years. I may however, proactively recommend a company or product when asked by a friend or or requested on my subdivision Facebook page if enough time has passed to believe in the reliability of the product or the service.
I used to leave hotel reviews on trip advisor because 1) I use them myself so payback for other’s help and 2) I travel for work and stay at too many to remember - so I go back and read my reviews to see if I liked the place or not. After a few years I stopped.
If a hotel sends me a survey, I don’t do them but I do try. The issue is - they go on for pages and pages. I imagine the participation rate is low.
There should be one question - will you stay again. If not, dig in.
My industry is survey heavy so I get it, I want to help them. Two minutes is fine. 20 minutes is eliminating.
If I have had a particularly good or particularly bad experience I am motivated to leave reviews. So most of mine are either 1 star or 5 star, lol, and the timing can be infrequent.
Depends. I think I tend to more on services than products. I’m very unlikely to leave a review for something like clothing. Sometimes, but not often.
It also depends how easy they make it to review. If I have to click in my email, click into a site, sign in, give some info, blah blah blah before I even leave a review then I hit the road. I also will not leave a review with my name on it.
Interesting thread, made me think. I leave very few reviews, yet I rely heavily on them (especially Amazon), so I guess I’m guilty of not doing my part. I will leave a review for an extreme experience/product, good or bad, but mostly negative it seems. DH is consistent with praising good service to a provider’s management, but he is much kinder than I am.
I will try to do better with praise.
Maybe it’s because so many review requests lead you down a rabbit hole that I tend to avoid them.
I don’t leave a ton of reviews. Almost never on Amazon because I rarely shop there any more. I don’t like to leave reviews on Google because I don’t like having my user ID viewable by others. I will occasionally leave reviews for a service if it was good and I get a survey. Sometimes I leave book reviews on my local library’s website. I have left reviews on TripAdvisor in the past but it’s probably been several years.
This. Only if something is particularly excellent or particularly bad. I have recently had a conversation with several flying passengers About one particular airline not enforcing their promise that first class or comfort plus passengers Have reserved space in the overhead bins. People who sit in the back of the plane frequently dump their overhead bags in bins reserved for a higher class of passengers, ignoring the signs on the bins, and then the passengers in These seats often can’t find a space for their bags. It’s beyond annoying and it’s not enforced by the gate agents or the flight attendants. It’s beyond annoying and should be addressed so I recently filled out the survey and noted this concern.
I’ll also add that the reviews I leave are likely to be positive. It’s not that I’m too kind to leave a negative review but those negative comments I prefer to give directly to the source - and strongly. So if it’s a company, I’ll take it up with them, not their review page.
I never leave product reviews. I only leave reviews for very good or very bad service or experience. I always check reviews before going to the restaurant or using business so I feel obliged to do so.
If I have gotten particularly excellent service, I will sometimes ask them to patch me through to their supervisor and tell the supervisor what an excellent job they did. Sometimes telling the agent when they are being helpful that you would like to do that when we are finished his beneficial as well.
