Leaving Week Before AP Exams!

Hello, recently I applied and was accepted to be a counselor at a camp nearby that I have also attended in the past. The camp is a week long, but unfortunately, that week is the week RIGHT before AP testing! It is too late to deny being a counselor, so I am stuck with it. I really want to be a counselor, but I am also hoping for a 5 on the AP exam. It is my first AP test that I am taking as a sophomore (AP World), so I will need a lot of studying probably. There are study sessions up at camp, but they are mostly for working on the make up homework I will miss that week. Am I totally screwed for the AP test? Is it possible to study a lot before camp and then take a week of not studying at camp and then get a 5 on the AP World test? I’m really worried about this :frowning: any help is appreciated!

Well it depends person to person.

If you have a good retention power and practise continuously you wont have a problem.

But for someone like me, i am so not getting a 5 without studying rigorously in the last week.

Although I am sure you’ll do pretty well
Best of luck.

Thanks for replying quickly. My memory has served me well in the past, so I’m hoping my retention of the material will stick with me. I’m really worried about forgetting a simple thing like a requirement for one of the essays or mixing up women’s status in different time periods. Also, my AP World teacher has barely prepared us at all and does not teach! I’m practically self-studying for the exam, and I haven’t even begun reviewing yet. Thank you for the good wishes though; I’m hoping for that 5!

You sound like a very driven person. I would recommend studying early. AP World is a big concepts test; it is all about long-term retention. Thus, studying the week behavior, yes, maybe helpful, but not monumentally. Studying about 1-2 months before the test determines your score, not last minute cramming. I believe you can get a 5 even with little studying before the test (thats what I did). Honestly, you should be fine! If your worried about it, study late at night at the camp and in every bit of spare time.
