Lecturer Recommendation?

One of my best friend’s mother is a lecturer at Cornell. His mom has said she’s willing to write me a recommendation. Will this help at all? FWIW, I don’t think his mother is a full-time lecturer, but definitely is part of the staff - my friend got his own special interview since his mom was part of the faculty.

LORs are ideally written by someone who has had you in their class and can speak first hand to the kind of student you are.

@snarlatron I already submitted my 2 teacher LOR’s and my GC LOR. This would be an additional rec

No. The person is the parent of a friend of yours and therefore not likely to be objective. The fact that the person is associated with Cornell doesn’t make it better-makes it worse. Looks like you want to use a connection. I’d pass. You don’t think having a friend whose mom teaches at Cornell should give you a leg up for admissions do you?

Should I tell her not to do it then? She’s about to submit it. @lostaccount Can this actually hurt me?
