If you can find a better car, buy it!
DeLuca was the adman behind that phrase!
RIP, the father of the “pony car.” A real visionary of the automotive industry.
Wow… I grew up in Detroit. He’s definitely a legend. Condolences to his family.
My dad and Lee Iacocca served on some university committee back in the 70s and 80s. He really respected the guy. To “help” Chrysler out, my father would only buy Chrysler cars for about 15 years. We had a driveway full of minivans, Le Barons, and K cars.
I read his autobiography a long long time ago (he wrote it in 1984) and the only part of it that I remember is how Henry Ford loved the hamburgers at the employee cafeteria and could never find any as good. Lee went back to the kitchen and asked the chef what his secret was. Guy went into the refrigerator and pulled out a high quality steak (I remembered it as filet mignon, but could have been something else) and threw it in the meat grinder.
I drive an older pony car. RIP, Lee.
