We have to attend a few weddings in the next few months including my son’s and I’ve bought all the dresses for the occasions.
I am going to wear short dresses for the afternoon weddings in the east coast and I am dreading wearing hose. I’ve come across several makeups for legs which include Air Stocking,Sally Hansen Airbrush Leg lotion and Nyce Spray On Instant Nylon. Has anyone used these?
I am concerned about durability, color and transferability to clothes.
Or should I just do a self-tanner, in which case, which one do you recommend?

What’s wrong with the legs God gave you? Nobody wears nylons anymore, of course, but spray on legs? No thank you :)

^^^^ Maybe it hasn’t hit you yet, but lots of us have Veins, with a capital V. Using makeup disguises those Veins.

On one of the other threads there was mention of sheer hose.
Short dresses & naked over 50 legs dont seem to go well with formal events like weddings, unless it was maybe on a beach & you are Tina Turner.
My dresses are either barely above my knee or longer.
I also have been genetically blessed to not have noticeable broken capilaries.
Whew- thanks grandma!.

If you have to have bare legs, I would opt for self tanner over makeup.

Oh, I have legs that definitely show the mileage, I get that. And I adhere to the “no above the knee skirts after 50” but my unaesthetic limbs are not getting painted. How do you scratch? What if it’s hot, do you get a run in the paint job? To each her own. No paint/spackle/shame for me.

Spray on panty hose? No thanks. I always think of the first actor who was supposed to play the Tin Man. Wolford is having their summer sale…

I’d say wear a pair of shorts outdoors on the weekends before the events and getting a tan. Self tanners and makeup don’t always look natural and wearing hose is a pain.

I’m as old hippie as they come, but at times one does not want to look the part. Yes, I have shame, and plenty of it, in certain situations. Others, not so much. Some things are appropriate for fly over country or the back woods, where I’ve spent much of my life, and some things help appearances in the city.

So yes, for an event where I wanted to wear a knee length dress, and look well put together, for the sake of meeting my S’s girlfriend’s family, here from Asia where appearances are important, yes I used leg paint. It was bizarre, but hid the offending blue lines quite nicely and far better than my usual self tanner. I was rather pleased. It did not rub off on the dress, but I was concerned about furniture where I was staying, so washed it off and changed when the event was over. And I was very happy to have my legs free in the southern California breezes, so worth the trouble.

To the OP, it was the Sally Hansen, and in an inside setting, it was fine. But the color was just a bit odd to my discerning eye. The true solution is surgery, and a little vein injection yearly. Not cheap. And self tanner.

great lakes mom, you may be a hippie, but you’re not old!!

I don’t understand the problem with wearing hose. Anyone??

I’m with you woody. I still wear hose upon occasion and find most of my friends do as well. Just feel more comfortable in more formal settings.

Hose are fine with me, except in really hot weather.

I would either wear sheer hose or use self tanner. I recommend the moisturizer/gradual self tanner made by Jergens. At 57 my legs are in decent shape, but I am fair skinned.

Go with the spray on - totally! I have some spider veins. I don’t spray my whole leg, just that area, then smooth it in so it is less obvious. You could also use the same stuff as for the face if it is not the whole leg (then it gets expensive.). So much more comfortable than hose and less old lady-ish.

How does leg paint work? Is it just like a tinted creme that you smooth onto your legs? Sort of like foundation for your face, but for your legs? I’ve never heard of this before!

My girls have let me know that hose are passe’. I would certainly wear them to a formal event in the evening, and have been a little shocked that Ds refuse for formal events. But they have nice, unlined legs. In certain summery settings, would far rather have my legs free. Heck, I’d wear shorts and dresses all the time if I could.

Yes, niquii, it is just like foundation for the face.

I know lots of women over 50 who have great legs and use self tanner or better yet get their legs professionally spray tanned. I have never tried this but I think it’s worth looking into - self tanner seems like it could be a bit tricky. The spray tan results, in my opinion, look great. I would not care for leg makeup. I like nude hose and yes, Wolford are very nice.

Yes, I would definitely opt for hose if the events weren’t held in NY summer months and if I weren’t planning to wear open toe shoes/sandals with my outfits.
Since I have time, I will experiment with a self tanner, Sally Hansen’s Airbrush Legs and get my legs professionally spray tanned to see which result is the best.

NO to pantyhose for me. They don’t make perfect sizing for tall overweight people- tired of crotches wanting to slide downwards… Also- NO to fashionistas. Comfort trumps appearances. Who is going to be spending most of their time staring at your legs when you undoubtedly have a beautiful personality to make a beautiful face to look at?

I will have to decide what too wear to a wedding later this summer for my niece. “Very, very casual” per her- in her small backyard with a picnic to follow. I know T shirt and shorts is a bit too informal for a wedding while great for the picnic part.

The focus is on the bride, not the attendees. Also- you are way past the stage in life of attracting a mate- that’s the reason the young put so much effort into appearances. Enjoy being the age and body you aged into. Get beyond the superficial.

I would agree with this statement as a general statement for women (and men), NOT just women past the age of looking for a mate. Personally, I think it’s healthy to enjoy and love your body and not put so much effort into appearace in order to attract someone. Just my $0.02.
