legacy admission at Duke

I want to go to Duke and was wondering if admission seems realistic with my stats, considering that my mother is an alumnus and has given money and done admission interviews for about 15 years.

Here are my credentials:
GPA- about 3.7
SAT- 720 CR / 700 Math / 730 Writing
Courseload- toughest available courses available (my school offers no honors courses because of the student body of roughly 100)
Athletics-
Ski racing: all year round, Junior Olympian, top 40 in nation in 3 events, 24/7 commitment.
Lacrosse: 3 seasons of varsity (will be 4), leading scorer, multiple awards
Soccer: 3 years of varsity (will be 4)
Extracurricular- newspaper writer/editor, debate, working 40 hours a week in the summer since i was 14 (should be noted that my school is a winter sports academy and offers little to no extracurriculars, i have maxed out my involvement in my environment)
Comm. Service- working at an elderly hospital, habitat for humanity, working at a homeless shelter and tutoring underprivileged children, helping out locally on an organic farm.

*my school is unique in not being able to offer any honors courses, but students are regularly accepted as athletes and as students at some of the best schools in the country like dartmouth, brown, and harvard. i believe my advantage in applying to college is that i have pursued a passion to the fullest extent, focusing on it completely, something most kids look past while too interested in padding their applications with meaningless activities.

also, my school does not rank because of the disadvantage it would present to everyone in a class of about 20, as being in the top 5% is one person. also, there are about 8 people with a 90+ gpa

Qualified legacies stand a good chance of getting into Duke; I think ~40-45% get in. You’d probably have to apply ED to get the advantage, however.

Your GPA is a bit low. Your SAT scores, while in Duke’s range, are also a bit low. Your ecs are good; you may want to focus on your ski racing in applications.

I’d say you have a good shot at ED. RD would be more difficult but definitely possible.

Why do you want to go to Duke as a ski racer? Nothing wrong with it, just doesn’t seem like a popular match for someone who skis all the time (I didn’t consider Duke for this reason, and A.B. Duke IV was my ski coach)

i’m not set on ski racing in college- i have dont it almost too seriously for the past 10 years. so, the fact that duke does not have a ski team doesn’t deter me…thanks for your reply

Your stats are a bit on the lower end (slightly) but ED and with legacy I think you have a great shot…they have a great club lax team btw

thanks…yeah i would love to play club lax
