For e.g. , my father is a Columbia Univ. graduate in Masters in Public Administration. How much will this raise my chances of admission?

I understand it to be much less important than for college --unless your dad is a very influential man.

some schools ask if any of your family members attended the university, but others (nyu, for example) just ask relatives who went to the law school. if columbia’s like that, they really won’t take it into account.

unless your parents donated HUGE amounts of money or served as trustees to the university or something, it probably makes almost no difference to your application.
