Legacy and Cancer Survivor

Please chance my kid-
Your opinion is greatly appreciated… thanks in advance

I will not list all of the grades and ec’s. Suffice it to say, good leadership and volunteer activities, good recommendations

ED
GPA 3.9 (AP’s and Honors courses)
ACT 30
Legacy
Cancer Survivor (Freshman year of HS)

I guess my main question is will the legacy status and a great essay about his cancer journey make much of a difference?

Sure, I’d say it’s something unique. The key is to tell a good story. If your son can articulate how his experiences have shaped his world views, thinking, character, personality, goals, etc and how that will impact his future and his time at Duke. Then it would make a great application.

Though that test score may hold him back.

^agreed. It can be good, but the ACT could hurt him. Honestly, I’d consider retaking the ACT/SAT and applying RD.
