Legacy Letters?

I recently found out that a grandparent got a letter re the legacy status of one grandchild, but not another.

Is it normal for grandparents to get such letters? Why would be get one for one grandchild and not another?

As I understand it, these letters are intended to provide a reality check. I thought that they were sent to all alumni with applicant children or grandchildren, but could it be that they’re sent only to those alumni whose legacy children/grandchildren are about to receive unhappy news, to try to soften the blow?

In fact, in this case letter was regarding a child who was later accepted.

Was the other child accepted as well?

No. Perhaps the apparently-not-given legacy tip would have helped…
