Legacy

My sister goes to U of I. Is there a place on the application where you can state any family members that went to U of I like my sister so my chances of acceptance is higher?

No, and Legacy is not a consideration in the admission process.

Do you use legacy in the admissions process?
Being a legacy can be considered during the admissions process; however, your academic performance, test scores, and essays carry the most weight for admission.

Above was copied from the FAQ on the IL website. I do think they add legacy as a small factor in admission. After all it gives them more of an indication whether a student will attend…especially out of state…

i wish there was a legacy portion on the application. i’m out of state and have legacy. and i need money to go there haha.

I think there is a portion on the application where it asks where your parents attended college…that is where the legacy part would have to come into play! Like I said, not sure it is a huge factor but I think it is a nudge!

oh yeah! i did list there that my dad went to illinois. forgot about that part.

The OP is asking whether he is a Legacy because his sister is currently attending UIUC. That does not make him a legacy.

The app has a section to tell them whether your parents went to UIUC. That was added a few years ago when they went from not considering legacy to having the option of possibly giving it some minor consideration. Sibling (brother or sister) “legacy” does not exist.
