Legacy

My dad did his residency in yale’s hospital. Does this count as a legacy?

Not at all. Not in the least.

What does not in the least supposed to mean?

I believe he means that it doesn’t count. A legacy is where a relative actually graduated from the school. Personally, I have a theory that legacies don’t count as much as some people think. I believe that it’s in the college’s interest to say that they pay attention to legacies because they don’t want to alienate potential donors. However I have heard too many stories about legacies getting rejected to believe that it carries more than a little weight. One in particular at another ivy league school, where an alumna was a very active fundraiser and helped raise millions of dollars for the school. His granddaughter, who was an excellent student, got rejected. She ended up going to another ivy, so she must have had good qualifications.

wow. i cant say anything to that
