Legacy?

How much does legacy count for SCEA? The Penn website is quite clear; I cant’ find anything on the Yale site. This is legacy for a Yale grad school.

not that much. unless your parents are active legacies (donate, come back for master’s teas, ect). lots and lots of legacies get rejected. but then again, their acceptance rate is higher than non-legacies.

No, not active. Much better chance at Penn. Is Yale so superior (except in name recognition) that he should significantly lower his chances there (as per the website)?

Lots of threads on how much legacy is worth, if you want to search the archives of the Yale forum. It doesn’t sound like the alumni connection you’re describing would impact admission outcome. I believe Penn is ED. If child will spend the rest of his life wondering if he could have been admitted to Yale or if Yale is his dream school, then don’t apply to Penn ED. Gaming the system isn’t worth the regret. However, if Penn really excites him, is his first choice, and finances are not an issue, ED is the way to go.
