Legalizing Prostitution

TCBH- People who don’t see keeping prostitution or marijuana illegal as a problem are kind of delusional IMO. That or they simply refuse to look at any kind of facts or statistics about those topics. Both of them only hurt people when they are illegal. They build up huge criminal empires that thrive on keeping people in fear- “Turn on us and we’ll kill you. Don’t worry, the public just sees you as common criminals anyway… not many (if anyone) will miss you.”

Either way, there have just been some out-there arguments against keeping it illegal in this thread…

yeah the whole drug war in Mexico is nbd

Why can’t the world’s oldest profession also be a legal one?

I do have to say that legalization of gay marriage and marijuana should definitely come first. But legalizing weed and prostitution at the same time would jump start the economy like no stimulus package ever could.

Correction to 21: Should be FOR keeping it illegal.

Whoops lol.

Almost everyone this thread is for legalization, save maybe two.

There’s nothing really to debate.

If we limited access to pornography, there’d be less sex-addicts and less people trying to get prostitutes.

Thats kind of gross. They had a tv news show about that where theres some place in Nevada i think where you can do that stuff legally, but its still wierd. Its dirty, even if they look good they have deseases…

^^ Completely agree. And there will never be a way to make sure women aren’t being held against their will. Wherever there is prostitution, [such as certain counties in Nevada, there is illegal trafficking of women and children and abuse](http://www.examiner.com/human-rights-in-national/nevada-how-bad-is-sex-trafficking-las-vegas). And I think pornography and prostitution are both perversions if not diseases. And legalizing it will encourage people to view sex as a commodity and view women as merely sexual objects.

And also, I think this thread should be moved to the politics forum. Tiff90, how is this in any way related to college life? Fortunately most college students are not this desperate.

"Tiff90, how is this in any way related to college life? Fortunately most college students are not this desperate. "

1) Did you not post a political thread in the college life forum?

2) There are prostitutes in college

3) I want student opinions, not adult opinions

4) You are just bitter over the AA discussion, no need to start fires.

5) While in college, people discuss politics. There are political organizations for college students.

6) College students have opinions about political issues, and spend time during their college life participating in student groups

7) Who are you agreeing with? No one posted about moving the thread

8) There are schools who support moral, conservative social policies.

What the eye doesn’t see, the heart doesn’t grieve over

Yes I did, although my topic was more connected to College Life since it deals with admissions into college and also employment post-graduation. I suppose in a very loosely-defined way your thread also has to do with college life. I am not going to argue this one.

Sure. I am sure that there are very few students who are prostitutes and none who do it by choice (tuition is high so some people would do anything). College is an opportunity to advance your career, not to end up as a beggar or prostitute.

Sounds fine.

No I wasn’t trying to start a fire. But this, just like AA, seems like a polarizing topic that will eventually move off topic into something like states-rights vs national rights that I don’t have the knowledge to debate about.

Ok sure. I do debate in college, although college debate doesn’t allow specific knowledge (thank God). I think prostitution should be banned without question, but I think that the penalties for being a prostitutie should be reduced or eliminated. Most of these people have no other career options and many of them were kidnapped, trafficked or molested and they are justified partially by the fact that demand still exists. However, I think those who run prostitution houses and clients should be dealt with harshly.

Certainly the fact that it is illegal is at least preventing some people from being clients of prostitutes. I mean, there are lots of desperate and impulsive people in this universe who regret what they have done later in life (this has happened to me at least, though not related to prostitution). At least some of them would be afraid of legal consequences and would be thwarted from this behavior (and saved from STDs, perversion, etc).

Indian- don’t bother. Tiff doesn’t like the fact that her political posts get moved to the political section of CC because parents there don’t largely agree with her and call her out. She thinks it’s a bias they have against college students, but I spend enough time there to know that that’s not the case. It’s a cycle.

Also, people are going to do what they want to do. At least give them that opportunity. Many women are forced into prostitution and have very few resources to get out because it is illegal. Men are going to buy these women either way- being illegal doesn’t deter the vast majority of people. Legalize it, regulate it, and then help the women who are FORCED into this rather than trying to protect the buyer who is making the conscious choice to go and buy sex.

EXACTLY! And the reason that people are allowed to do this is because it is an illegal and unregulated business. LEGALIZE it and then REGULATE it so that this kind of thing doesn’t happen as much anymore.

What Romani said. It should be regulated the same way the pornography industry is regulated. Actors have to be tested for diseases every month (I’d make it every two weeks personally). Obviously there would still be a need to combat sex slaves, which could partially be dealt with by having a mandatory minimum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

As for porn, I love it, and if anybody ever tried to ban it they would regret it.

To quote the great Dr. Cox:
“I’m fairly sure if they took porn off the Internet, there’d only be one website left, and it’d be called ‘Bring Back the Porn!’”

All I know is if there’s ever a serious movement to ban it, I will buy a few external hard drives and create a gigantic stockpile of the stuff.

Tiff doesn’t like the fact that her political posts get moved to the political section of CC because parents there don’t largely agree with her and call her out. She thinks it’s a bias they have against college students, but I spend enough time there to know that that’s not the case. It’s a cycle.

Maybe you like to peruse the parents forum because you are a parent…

Hahahah no, I don’t like the parents thread because 1) I am not a parent 2) I want to discuss issues with college age kids and 3) no parent has actually called me out effectively.

Additionally, they complain when college kids go over there. I already expressed that view. I assure you, the people on this site are disproportiantely of one set of beliefs. It is a misrepresentation of political views in society as a whole.

I don’t see why you seem to want to start petty attacks on members. I thought people like you were supposed to be all about open mindeness and tolerance, yet you take any chance to make snarky remarks about me. I find it highly immature, petty, snarky and pathetic. Especially since you get angry when facts contradict your opinions.

I am about to lose hope that you can act in a mature and reasonable manner…

And notice, You and IndaianPw whatever started the call outs.

Maybe they should just put a “Political Forum” for College Life (not that I would be lurking on there too much. I’m not a big fan of politics, but for those that are into it, a sub-forum might be a good idea) =\

Have you contacted the mods about it or make a suggestion to them?

Tiff, I was not attacking you or being snarky. You do not like your threads being moved to the Politics section because you have stated that parents don’t like college students and you get dismissed. I am only repeating what you yourself have said.

I agree that there should be a politics section on the college life section.

I’m into freedom of speech, and freedom of choice. I’m the kinda guy that likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, “Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs with the side-order of gravy fries?” I want high cholesterol! I wanna eat bacon, and butter, and buckets of cheese, okay?! I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section! I wanna run naked through the street, with green Jell-O all over my body, reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly may feel the need to, okay, pal?

I love bad movies.

I never thought about chicks doing that kind of stuff in the dorms. wow. i bet theres schools where they do that. and they are probably more in the cities.
