Legalizing Prostitution

Roman-

“Tiff doesn’t like the fact that her political posts get moved to the political section of CC because parents there don’t largely agree with her and call her out. She thinks it’s a bias they have against college students, but I spend enough time there to know that that’s not the case. It’s a cycle.”

Now:

“Tiff, I was not attacking you or being snarky. You do not like your threads being moved to the Politics section because you have stated that parents don’t like college students and you get dismissed. I am only repeating what you yourself have said.”

In your original post you were not repeating what I had said.

I think there is a conflict between romanigyspsyeyes and tiff90. It seems as if they don’t like each other. But I don’t think it’s a conflict of interest because they are not interested in each other. At least, I hope not because that is weird. I am not sure which side I am on yet, but I think I might be on romaigyspseyes’s side because gypsies are cool. Also, I wonder if any of them have direct experience with prostitution. I hope not because that would be sad. And that is what I think.

I don’t understand the point of legalizing it. I’m against prostitution, and I think any benefit gained from legalizing it would be offset by the costs to regulate it. Legal prostitution could open up a can of worms in terms of disgusting pigs possibly abusing, drugging, and manipulating young, underage girls. This is a HUGE problem in other countries. If prostitution is an option, young women might be tempted to go into it instead of choosing a better career option that could actually help them in the long run. There is a possibility of endorsed abuse behind closed doors from bosses and customers, and if young girls are in the trade, they might not have the sense to get help from the police because of intimidation and constraint by financial power. Furthermore, there is the infinite list of public health issues, including all the sexually transmitted diseases that are possible. Then of course, what if protection is not being used properly? Who is going to oversee that? If a woman becomes pregnant and has been used in service by a lot of men, how will she get support? Will the government spend money trying to find out which customer was the father? Does the government even have that legal right?

My emotional values say absolutely no, and my logical values say it doesn’t make sense. Dislike.

^^
I don’t start personal attacks, I only respond to snide remarks.

@yea- LOL.

No need to take sides. I don’t want to derail the thread, and I have no beef with Tiff. I was simply responding to another poster based on my previous knowledge of Tiff. That is all. Tiff and I are not in a duel :p!

Think about this logically for a second. You are saying that legalizing (and therefore regulating and monitoring) prostitution is going to make it EASIER for people to manipulate underage girls. Seriously, in what kind of world does that make any kind of sense? When you legalize it and regulate it, you have a MUCH tighter control on something than if it were illegal and you have to prosecute EVERYTHING, not just the underage sale and abuse of all of the workers.

Could you please explain further how LEGALIZING something for consenting adults (and therefore making it possible for abuses and problems to be reported without fear of you yourself getting thrown in jail) would make it easier for people to get away with abuse and underage use?

As I said before, not many people believe prostitutes right now when they are raped, abused, or are underage. Those who are abused have very little legal resources at their disposal. If they go to the cops, THEY will get arrested. What incentive does any sex worker right now to go to the cops and report a crime? NONE because they are doing illegal activities themselves. If it were legalized, they could go to any police station and report a crime without fear of penalty.

I am failing to see the logic for how keeping it ILLEGAL is somehow helping to keep young girls and all women safe.

As for the pregnancy issue- how about this. Since it will be regulated, you make the customers sign an agreement that they must pay child support if they are found to be the father (as they already are by law required to support the child). Maybe this would deter some men…

(I use “women” but I am perfectly aware that their are male prostitutes as well. Everything I say here applies to men as well, but since there are more women, it is easier to just use female nouns and such.)

For the people who oppose prostitution:

Should porn be legal and should people be able to profit from porn?

I would think if it were legal condoms must be used, to ensure good health. Unless business would test customers for STDs before they could do it. I would guess there would be health regulations in place promoting contraceptives.

I think the same regulations should apply as in the porn industry.

What do people do if porn stars become pregnant? (Legit question, I do not know the answer.)

I would google it, but I have the feeling “porn stars kids” would not turn up something I would open.

I would assume any sex resulting in a child would end up with the male paying child support. Based on paternity cases, it is the males responsibility to prevent pregnancy (based on the idea that if he does not use protection, he either wants a kid or doesn’t care enough to prevent one), or he has to pay for the kid. Legitimate porn (at least the gay industry) has stars use condoms (rolling stone article on a gay porn star). I would assume anyone who has had that much sex would know about contraceptives. I mean, I don’t think pregnant porn does that well…

I’d imagine they get an abortion.

We all know if prostitution would become legal there would be some add on that abortions would not be covered.

I don’t think abortions are free…meaning not staying safe would cut into the prostitutes profits…unless the pimps pay for them.

Yes porn should be legal but I honestly think that Porn should be treated like cigarettes. I would personally say banning it would be fine but the ban won’t be taken seriously by anybody since porn has lost its stigma in the US at least for a long time. I mean, there is certainly harm being done by pornography (and it has a measurable effect on marriages, relationships, and on sexual performance in general).

Maybe elementary and middle schools should educate students about the harm of pornography and every website should have a warning (both on age and a perversion/sexual impairment warning). And I think that more should be done to prevent underage porn usage (perhaps every porn user must enter a “Porn ID”, only available to 18+ and there is a nominal per-site-visit cost so people won’t share). Whatever is being done now is insufficient.

Harm being done by porn? What’s next, metal turns kids into Satanists?

"Harm being done by porn? "

I am sure there may be some shoulder injuries among young men

@DC- Logically.

I am so tempted to quote an Eminem song right now, but for everyone’s sake, I shall restrain myself.

Harm from porn? Ha.

Plenty of relationships actually benefit from porn, in that it can help a couple be more honest and open with each other.

Note: I’m a girl, so don’t try to claim otherwise.

Don’t forget chafing and keyboard damages.

^ Ew… lol .

C’mon kids, storytime! Everyone grab their favorite stuffed animal and let’s sit pretzel style in a circle on the rug. Today we are going to be talking about something very special, something which you are not directly familiar with but your Mommy and Daddy may very well enjoy: pornography…

What’s wrong with looking at porn underage? Most people have sex before they turn 18. The age of sexual consent in most states is 16 or 17. Kids are educated about sex early as Middle School. There is nothing wrong or unhealthy with watching porn (of course anything is bad in excess). If I had a kid, I’d much rather have him watching porn than going out and banging random high school girls who are too dumb to take their birth control daily and would get each other knocked up.

Each other? !?!?

Most porn sites are already technically >18 only anyway I think.

Porn actually doesn’t harm societies. It does the opposite.

I don’t really have a strong interest either way. Of course, porn may desensitize people to sexual violence or something or other (at least theoretically). Or make people objectify women more (this is more believable, but I haven’t seen hard evidence - not sure).

HOWEVER, I did see one study that saw that the introduction of porn actually reduced sexual violence in communities. This is because men had an “outlet” if you will for sexual frustration, or kinks, or what have you. Or they were too lazy to go outside due to the availability of porn. I’m too lazy to find it but I’m sure 2 minutes on google or scholar will find it for you. Just something to think about.
