Thanks to all for the shopping links!
I’m the OP. In regards to men, well first of all male runners and bikers have used tights for years. My son used to wear them under his soccer uniform for those cold games when the temps were near freezing (he was a goalie).
But what I was really referring to for men was the mens line at places like Lululemon like these:
http://shop.lululemon.com/c/men/_/N-7tu Everything from tights to casual athleisure pants.
LOL they are called “meggings” and apparently they are a thing:

This gave me a bad flashback. Years ago I had a male boss who swam in the mornings before work, which is great. What was not great is that in the summer he would then come into the office wearing just a speedo and flip flops. TMI and I don’t mean because of the flip flops!

I can pretty much guarantee that most men disagree with this.
Put me in the camp the meggings @HarvestMoon1 linked to are an abomination and should not be worn in public, unless you’re doing something athletic.
As a male, I am certainly not going to complain about women wearing yoga pants or leggings
I don’t understand why some people are so uptight about it.
Yeah the “meggings” really don’t do it for me either. No way my H or S would wear them anyway.
On cold days, men often do wear tight fitting leggings, but with other shorts or trousers over them.
The male runners I know don’t wear shorts over tights, Ucb. I’m been running for 40 years. Yes, a few do but it’s not favored.
I just started wearing leggings for work. Like a couple others I generally wear them under a just above the knee dress or skirt and I’ve not yet worn print leggings to work, but have a found a not-to-crazy paisley pair that I may wear this spring under a longer dress. I migrated from tights to leggings because those crazy Lularoe leggings are so darn soft, comfortable and non-binding and addicting! I have long, long legs so would never wear leggings with just a tunic to work…the tunic would just be too short to be appropriate in a professional setting for me even the one or two I own in Tall size for hanging around the house (and for sleepwear) would be too short for work. I don’t leave the house in those tunics and leggings. Plenty of the young admins just out of college do still wear the college uniform of leggings, boots and tunics. Unless nylons come back in fashion (hopefully not)…leggings are a good option to keep your legs warm. I’m thrilled to send alot of my more structured, tailored clothing off to resale and dress down abit in the office. I honestly have not worn a “suit” in a couple years so I think those are on their way out of my house this year as I wind down my office based career here in the next few years.
I have zero problem with office dress codes. Heck I went to high school in an era that was “no jeans” and skirts had to be a particular length so I’m no dress code rebel. To me, rules are just rules and they apply to everyone. The only dress code uproar that was particularly interesting was a company I was with in the 80s…there was a women’s trend of shorts suits…super cute, a long knee length short with a suit coat - but the guys in my office started wearing shorts with sport coats claiming if women could wear them so could men. But the company decided hairy man legs wasn’t a professional look and outlawed the short suits for women.
For leaving the house to do errands, I do have ponte knit slim leg and slim ankle crop pants that aren’t skin tight and mesh that line between the “look” and leggings…but wider leg pants are on their way back so totally possible that the slim look may slowly exit the fashion landscape for a few years.
I do agree that there are way too many women walking around in leggings that probably shouldn’t, but heh, it’s their prerogative if they want to let it all hang out and I do mean that literally and figuratively. I can’t think of one period of my teen or adult life where there wasn’t some fashion trend that really didn’t look good on every figure.
I think man leggings are away off in the future…most men (or at least “my” men) are just now discovering spandex in jeans or pants so a decade or so “behind” women in my opinion in terms of skin-tight clothing except for the skinny hipster types and you rarely see that look in guys over the age of early twenties.
I wear leggings or yoga pants every day. These are great and a best seller at Nordstrom. http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/zella-live-in-high-waist-leggings/4312529?origin=keywordsearch-personalizedsort&fashioncolor=NAVY%20RIBBON With warmer weather I switch over to Athleta’s Midtown ankle pant:http://athleta.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=297748032&vid=1&locale=en_US&kwid=1&sem=false&sdkw=midtown-ankle-pant-P297748&sdReferer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2F They are perfect for travel. Very lightweight
@momofthreeboys LOL. Agree that the Lularoe leggings are SO addictive! I need to start another shelf in the closet for mine.
NM- I am working from home today and literally wearing the Athleta Midtown Ankle pants right now. I don’t wear them into the office but I wear them a lot for casual weekend wear.
I wear leggings to the gym regulalry. I’ve recently discovered Athleta, but I also like Lucy and the Nordstrom brand (Zella?) I have never worn them to work, or out to dinner/lunch, other than maybe the food court at the mall. I will wear them to the grocery store, when I’m hoping to get to the gym soon after shopping.
I remember touring schools with my S14, and I think every female tour guide had on black leggings. I would not have recommended them on some, especially with shirts that were too short.
I bought black leggings at Soma. I have 2 short dresses, so I wear them with that. I’d happily buy more tunics or short dresses, but haven’t found any I like (ok, I haven’t done much shopping in past year).
I feel more professional at work, cuz I don’t like patients staring at my legs, and I can sit comfortably
For leggings to be worn for “dressier” occasions, not working out.
I like hue leggings (they sell them at Macy’s or Nordstrom) or Tees by Tina (sold at boutiques). The Tees by Tina ones are really soft and thick and wash up great if you can find them. The hue leggings run pretty long which is great for those who are taller than I am.
For athletic wear, I like Lucy, Zella and lululemon. All are very nice. And athleta.
My niece sells Lularoe, so have been buying a few things from her. Love the leggings. Have bought a few tunics from JJill to go with them; now if I could find some dresses that would also work with the leggings, too. And a LONG black sweater…
I love leggings but always wear them with tunics or jackets. Never as pants.
@CountingDown Try the LuLaRoe Carly for over the leggings. You can belt it or not. There is also a long cardigan called Sarah by LuLaRoe that is great.
